just experimented today
i was in fourth gear today and i put my hand on the shifter and pushed. Then i was expecting a grind or some thing but there wasnt. Can anyone explain this to me if they have the time

It will slip out of gear 4th to neutral but don't go any further like try to go into third then it will grind you a pound.
If you happened to match the speed of the motor to the speed of the tranny it will go into third. Usually with a clunk. Older cars did this easier, now days trannies aren't built like they use to.

There is a technique to shifting up with out a clutch that takes alot of time to accomplish correctly, Going on 3yrs and still mess up from time to time
But just pushing out of gear, This will happen in most cars when not on the throttle in any gear

When the transmission and the engine speeds are going the same then its level to each other (aka no pressure on the gear your on).
