Just bought Ground Controls, How long can stock shocks last
Hi, i just ordered my ground control coilovers and am planning to run them with stock shocks until i can upgrade. Only planning on lowering the car 1-1.5", just enough to get rid of fender gap. I will also buy top hats when i get some extra cash, but how long do you expect i can run this setup without blowing my shocks?? Also, on a scale of 1-5 how difficult will this project be consider i have a strong mechanical background. If any1 has a link to a DIY that would be greatly appreciated.

what year civic?? if its a ek its real easy to get the shocks out.
but use this as a warning you have to compress the spring and if you dont know how have someone that does show and make sure you can do it.
my uncle blew a hole is his garage with a spring about 5-6 years ago.
im not sure about how long the shocks will last im interested in that to sence i just order skunk 2 coilovers lol

mine had 140xxx miles and i slammed my **** and the front ones last 8 months and blew out and my rears shox are still stiff and good. i replaced mine front shox with old stock shox. so they will last a long time if their fairly new. under 100xxx miles.

Ok, i got a 2000 ex. Imma rent a spring compressor from autozone. As for the rest i should have all the tools.Anything i should consider replacing? Imma prolly get some tokicos or kyb's not sure. Sounds easy enough, i imagine i can follow my helms manual for front damper removal.

sence when is it spelled shox?
but all you need is spring compresser besides normall hand tools a jack and some stands.
air tools are better. but be carefull the stock lca bolts like to break.

Tools you'll need:
14 MM deep socket
12MM socket
PB blaster
breaker bar
ratchet
Spring compressor
Mallet
That's just off the top of my head. Pre-soak the lca bolts with PB blaster for a week and drive around, it'll really help loosen them up. I didn't break a single bolt off my 1991 civic, it's been through many PA winters

O my car is has never seen a winter, the bolts come out like brand new. I was reading a DYI, and the guy took the axle nut off and loosened the whole spindle, and i just thought that was unnecessary.

Nooo completely unnecessary. There's a lot of tutorials, just follow them, it's not hard at all. Post here if you run into any trouble
