Default Just bought car speedometer not working! help

Guys, I just bought an Ek and the speedometer is not working. The original owner told me its because the car need a new speed sensor but he's not sure also. I recently try to get it smog and the smog guy told me my OBD diagnostic connector is broken I need to fix it. I don't know what he's talking about but If I fix the OBD diagnostic connector will my gauge work?

By the way can u guys tell me if i got a good deal on the car?

That depends on whats wrong with the connector. check your fuses first, my speed-o didn't work and it ended up being a short in an ign wire under the intake manifold, after replacing the vss and alternator

well that sucks, I'd say go to a junk yard and cut out one from the same year(s) civic and solder it up

The connector is only $25 and my car is in the shop getting repainted. But overall do you think its the OBD diagnostic connector that is causing the problem? My whole gauges doesnt read, Rpm, MPH, Fuel, Heat.... The owner also rewire the radiator fan to a switch button so that car won't overheat.

wtf? the obd connector shouldn't have anything to do with your gauges. that seems awfully suspect, especially because of the jerry-rigged fan, the previous owner probably disconnected the whole assembly so he won't rack up miles or something

ccjustin, couldn't it be a possibilty? I remember when my friend was fixing my 99 civic si I forgot to plug in one of the connector to the ECU. I started the car and drove home and notice my gauge wasn't working. My friend and I couldnt figure it for weeks. Then I double check what I did (noob on cars) and notice I forgot to connect one of the connector to the ECU. started up the car and all my gauges work and no more overheating. Though I have no clue where this OBD diagnostic connector is located and where does it go until I get my car back wednesday. Overall im just sayig could it be a possibility? Im really new to the car scene so I appreciate any suggestion or advice.
