Just got me a 1997 Honda Civic EX Sedan, silver. Its in great condition, and of course its manual.

What should i do to it first?
I already ordered an intake, and a skunk2 shift **** (i dig the fancy shifters, they give you like 10hp)

Maybe ill add some pics

Weld the rear doors shut and pretend it's a 2 door?

Realistically, there's nothing wrong with a 4 door. People are less likely to steal them and they probably don't cost as much to insure. In the other hand they're probably heavier, longer and not as stiff as a 2 door. My comment was a joke.

well lets see..... for starters my 97 4 door wieghs less than a 99-00 Si. granted the Si has a b16a2 in it but the 4 door wieghs in at 300 pounds lighter. so do a b16 or b18 in the 4 door and you got the same wieght as a 99-00 Si, which is a 2 door that is soooooo much lighter right. oh and for 4 doors being longer than a 2 door, that is why i can go buy a catback exhaust for a EK 2 door and bolt it right up with no modification to my EK 4 door. the exhaust lenghts are the SAME. the car is not a limo.

you did say PROBABLY HEAVIER, LONGER, but just wanted to clear that up for you

As well as your knowledge of Civics. Please read the link in my signature; I made it specifically for people like you.

And for the OP, depends on what you're looking to do with the car. I could tell you to boost that bitch, but if your goals are for a well-handling machine then why bother with that, right? So what you do first depends on what you want out of the car first.

You guys are WAY too uptight.

Does owning a 4 door do that to you? Compare a 97 2 door to a 97 4 door. Apples to Apples. Cars are getting heavier every year so, your comparison is invalid.

97 2 dr coupe - 2262 lbs
97 2 dr hatch - 2222 lbs
97 4 dr sedan - 2319 lbs

So, the 4dr is heavier.

The wheelbase is the same which is impressive. Sheet metal versus doors. I'm willing to bet the 4dr isn't as stiff as a 2 door. I can't actually find number on that though. It's not always true. M3 4 dr is actually stiffer than the 2 dr.

oh my god. the reason i compared my 97 4 door to a newer year 99-00 Si, is because of that fact that is comes with a b16 stock. all the other cars that you mentioned above in the quote from you all have d-series stock. so for all the people that get a 96-00 EK 2 door or 4 door and swap for a b-series engine, the wieght would be equivalent to a 99-00 Si. therfore way easier to use that comparison than explain this to you.

way to post up some wieghts after someone gives you the link like you knew them all along.

Actually I looked those number up on Google.

http://www.cg-car-reviews.com/...06096

Then download the PDF.

The 4 door is heavier than the 2, the 97 4 door with a B engine is heavier than a 97 2 door or 97 hatch with a B. The SI with the B has both a rear swaybar, different front LCA's and chassis re-enforcement which the 97 EX doesn't. It's a newer car and heavier.

What part of this statement of facts are you having a problem with? I'm not even saying anything bad about your baby.

Maybe you should throw some common sense into the mix. You're saying a car with the same wheel base but 2 extra doors is lighter?

If you check this guys web site closely, you'll see 1/2 the time he's showing the MT as heavier than the AT and 1/2 the time it isn't. To me that means all the numbers are suspect.

As I see it

1) HB will be the lightest, same car, no trunk, no sunroof.
2) Coupe is next - 2 doors, same car.
4) Sedan 2 extra doors, and all the hardware needed to support the doors, hinges, window glass, cranks, locks.

They add 2 doors and the car is magically lighter? How does that work?

Either way, the weights are pretty close.

Ok you're right about it weighing less, but by 300 lbs? Do you have a DX?

Well, in that case Si >> DX anyway, so the weight comparison shouldn't even be considered.
