Default Just bought a 2000 Civic 1.8 VTi 5dr hatch - What do i need to look out for?

Hi all, I have just bought this car as sadly i had to sell my old motor due to financial reasons.

Im just wanting to know the basics of what to be aware of with the car in terms of maintenance and also are these cars worth modifying?

What type of basic performance mods does it respond to? For those who have modded their civics, if you could start over... which performance mod would you put on first over everything else?

Regards
Fizz

p.s) are there many UK owners on these forums?

Are you a member of http://www.hondarevolutions.com too? They will help you much more better. Although this car is based off of the Rover chassis, the engine (B18C1) is still the same as ours. Many people would do a simple intake, header, and exhaust modification.

Others will suggest in investing in suspension parts, but I am unfamiliar with the chassis compenents of the MB6.

Cheers mate.

Ive joined on there as well.

Im not too fussed about mods at the moment but its good to have an idea of what is available.

Ive just downgraded from a Celica GT4 ST205 pushing 276bhp and 275 lb/ft torque so im not expecting to be blown away by the VTi.

Its more of a practicle move on my part.

Cheers for the info and suggestions.

for mods, that car should respond good to Intake/header/exhaust. The B seiries engines usually respond pretty good to those mods. Also look in to cams and stuff like that, and dont worry you could get that engine at 200hp no problem

wow, what an interesting fact.

The body lines look too much like the 96-00 Civic's or Domani (Acura EL) to be based on a Rover. So I did some research.

Did some research, and look what Wikipedia turned up;

Aw ***** man, looks like a Kia wit a Integra dash in it. Interesting car. If your looking for "response" in suspension, this is the right forum, but if you want to know how the engine performs, definatly check the Integra forum, cause thats a "B-series" which we have in the Integra GSR 94-01 In America. Most people do intake cause its a pipe with a filter, no resonator box, so the car gets a nice throaty sound.

Civics are DEFINATLY worth modifying. There light, have F1-like suspension, and are, compared to most makes of cars, the easiest to modify.

FIRST MOD: Good tires. I reccomend a inch or two bigger rims that hold wider tires. Wide, low profile tires give better braking, accelleration, handling and cornering. Don't get some heavy chrome wheels, but Like 16s would be optimal for ya, still not that heavy, and allow for a 45 profile tire, which gives great handling without being back breaking. Tires are THE most important part of your entire car.

I reccomend you drive the car, tell us what ya like and don't like, and also ignore the word "JDM" on this site for a while, THOSE are the ricers who are gonna tell ya to make it ugly and super stiff and loud. PM me if you'd like sir, and I can give ya my opinions, and tell ya everything ya wanna know about this chassis and how to change it.
