Default JIS Screwdriver

What is the most common size of JIS screwdriver that most Honda screws use? Some of the self tapping screws require a JIS screwdriver for a lot of torque, for example the screw that goes into the metal door handle assembly and holding on the cover needs to create the threads in the metal assembly (if you buy a new assembly, which I have done and realized the threads were not created so the screw only went in a half thread).

I think you should be able to apply a lot of torque to create threads even with a good phillips Snap On screwdriver, but I may also want to have a JIS screwdriver in my toolbox. Also, where could I find the most common size phillips head (#1, #2, #3, etc.) if I were to buy one good Snap On screwdriver?

Most common Philips head size on a Honda is a #2. However, what is the most common size of JIS screw that I've had trouble removing with a Philips screwdriver? Probably a #3: Brake rotor screw, those screws under the e-brake / armrest, and the funny flat screws that hold the front and rear bumpers down (esp on a 5G Civic).

Lots of people have trouble with the rotor screw on the dizzy, which is a #2 as I recall.

EDIT: Note that I don't know if JIS screw sizes "match" the Philips nomenclature. Eg., I don't know what the official name of a JIS screwdriver is that would be the equivalent size as a Philips #2.

I had no idea that the screws under the e-brake/armrest were JIS. I had a tough time removing those and I had to use my buddy's Snap On #3 phillips screwdriver. The rotor screw on the dizzy is JIS, but I don't know if its #2 or #3.

A few weeks after making this thread, since no one responded, I bought a #2 JIS screwdriver. I guess I should have got a #3 because all of those screws you named have definitely been the most difficult. Because of that, I replaced the 5 flat screws that hold down both the front and rear bumper (5G civic) to 4mm allen heads like most people do in their engine bay.

So come to think about it, most screws that we think are phillips heads, are actually JIS on these cars. I might as well have #2 and #3 JIS screwdrivers. (I am assuming the sizes of phillips and JIS correspond to each other, like #2 phillips and #2 JIS are very similar, is that right?)

Haha, yeah. I knew about this for a while, and I figured everyone else did too. I wonder if Tyson was referring to my post here when he mentioned that it recently came up. I purchased the Impacta 980 series in #2, unfortunately. I should have got a #3 because that is the one where you want the impact driver action, for the rotor screws that are usually very very tight. They are about $20 each so I guess I won't get the #3 one yet until I can afford it in my budget. For some reason I thought #2 was the size for the brake rotor screws.

Btw, does anyone know why Snap On screwdrivers are pretty damn good at getting out JIS screws (such as the ones under the ebrake/armrest)? Are they actually JIS or are they just really good phillips screwdrivers (when used for the right # screw)?

Cool video. I believe I left the rotor screws off last time I put on new rotors. I mean technically the screws are only on for when the car was in the assembly line and the wheels were not on holding the rotors in place, I THINK.

If you want to get brake rotor screws out every time get a Wivco Shake n Break. It works every time. But you need an air chisel/hammer to use it.

Ive drilled them in the past but I also got a punch to break them loose.

A little anti seize works wonders. I wouldnt run w/o the screws, they help keep the assembly balanced.

The hardest screws to get out to me are the door lock screws which I think are a 3. You can't air hammer them hard or you can punch though the door
