is it because the inlet is too small? isn't the usdm itr cat a 2.5 inch inlet

Some individuals claim to have successfully used a USDM cat with the JDM header. However, the inlet of the USDM cat is quite small (right around 2"), and the flare is not large enough to form a proper seal with the JDM flange. You will need an aftermarket cat with a 2.5" inlet, or a modified stock cat. Also keep in mind that the JDM header is a slightly different length than the USDM manifold, but this difference can be absorbed by the exhaust hangers.
