JDM Gauge Clusters????
Just wondering... Does anyone know if the ECU converts MPH into Km/H? Or do you just have to remember where the needle used to point when you doing 65?? I mean, will the cluster read 85 Km/H and then you need to convert it into MPH??? Thanks guys.

Re: JDM Gauge Clusters???? (BlazingSIRT)
Im pretty sure its the cluster that "interprets" the information from the ECU and turns it into either MPH or Km/H. The reason why I say that is because I have a '95 JDM b16a (w/ the stock jdm ecu) mated with a '93 USDM Si cluster and it displays mph (as opposed to the regular km/h). Someone else should confirm this though.

IDIOTS. It does not convert it for you. It just reads what it reads. the "converting process" lies in the face. Hell if You wanted to you could put what ever numbers you want. Personally, I would put a Vt3k y0 at 5500 RPMs and back to the future at 88mph.

exactly you could have nothing on the face and the needle would read in the same place if you only want it to read kmph then get a face thats only kmph if you want mph then blah blah blah you get the idea.

JDM clusters are limited in their display of mph compared to it's USDM counterpart.
So, you can't just swap in a different face and hope it reads correct.
JDM / UKDM read in KMH
USDM read in MPH..
Nothing gets converted.. it's just displayed different.

USDM/UK =mph
Canadian = km/h (then mph)
its all in the face, no ecu or cluster conversion takes place

Whoa.. ok my bad. I understand that replacing the face wont change where the needle will be pointing but I thought that changing from a usdm cluster to a jdm cluster might.

And to beat this topic into the ground...It is all in the face. I recently swapped the Candian face over to a US Odometer/Speedometer base. I wanted the "cosmetics" of the K/mh face, but my mileage to read in standard measurements for oil changes, gas mileage and maintanance issues.

Re: JDM Gauge Clusters???? (BlazingSIRT)
I just want to be clear. So if the needle used to point straight up when I was doing 60 on a USDM cluster, would I still be doing 60 when the needle points straight up on a JDM?UKDM cluster regardless of what Km/H it reads? I understand that if I was to change just the face how that would be true, but what about the whole cluster?......I know that this is a stupid topic, but I was just wondering. Thanks again.

What sucks the most is that you were trying to be a smart *** and made yourself look dumb by putting a 2 instead of a 3 in vt3k.
