JDM EG's -- why is there no cluster dimmer?
Well as you probably already know, the JDM EG's have a little coin pocket or blockoff in the section where the dimmer switch usually resides on US/Canada/other country vehicles. This is because there is no dimmer switch--the clusters only have one brightness setting.
Is there a special reason for this?? JDM EG's* had auto climate control, fog lights, traction control, 4WD, the B16, etc etc...yet not something we have here, a simple light dimmer?

Lots of countries had Civics without dimmers. From what I've seen, the US actually seems like the odd one out. It appears most countries don't have dimmers on their Civics.

Ok, I didn't know that. Do you have any idea on which countries DID get a dimmer? How about Canada? UK? Other Asian countries?

I hardly ever use it on my EJ1--the light is so dim that I have to have it maxed out. But on almost every other car I've driven (both Honda and otherwise), I usually have to adjust the cluster lights. Sometimes I like it super bright for that videogame look...sometimes I like it really dim so I don't have to bother with it.
It's not like "man, I absolutely HAVE to adjust the cluster dimmer every time I get in the car", but it's a nice feature to have. And now I need to find out why Europe gets headlight squirters, Japan gets parking poles, and we get...a cluster dimmer.

We also get no ABS on the EM1 (only country).
I'd have to go through each country to figure out which gets which for each year and trim. And I have no access to Canadian specs. Seems like a lot of work.

In my NZDM(New Zealand) eg5 has got dimmers but doesnt have air con like the djm ones, does have wind up windows but I think they were optional in most countrys. Also has a 220km/h speedo instead of the 180km speedo that jdm has.

Your New Zealand Honda Civic Si hatchback (EG5 / D16A4 1.6L DOHC PGM-FI, or so the parts catalog says) had air conditioning as an optional part, like all trim levels which did not come standard with air conditioning.
Not all JDM fifth gen Civics, EDM fifth gen Civics or USDM fifth gen Civics had standard air conditioning either.

Oh, and this is still confusing me. I'm not sure if the OP is trying to say he's including all EGs (which include sedans anyway) or if he's trying to say he's including all fifth gens in general.

How hard is this sentence to understand?

Tell me what is unclear, please. All JDM fifth-gens are EG's, except the EH1 (4door sedan with ZC).
The only EG I wasn't including was the del Sol. So I guess I was wrong on the 'all' part, eh?

All JDM fifth gens are not EGs, even when you ignore the EH1.
So are you trying to say "all EGs" or are you trying to say "all fifth gen Civics"?
It was an honest question.

You know, I know what you're asking and I think I knew it when I posted last. But I think you're being way too specific.
I made this thread because I kept seeing the EG6 coin pocket, and then in other hatches (like EG4) I just saw a blockoff plate. And since (almost) everyone here talks about EG's when they mean EH's, EK's when they mean EJ's, etc, I just generalized by saying 'EG', which was supposed to include the Ferio as well.
What did I really mean? I guess I was just wondering where the hell the cluster dimmer is on any 92-00 Civic.
I know you knew what I was asking, since you gave me an appropriate response before anyone else even posted. So I'm a little confused at why you had to go into semantics. Was it really that confusing? Now you've gotten me confused!

No, I wasn't really sure if you meant to include coupes or not. I know some people don't think there were JDM coupes, so I thought that might have something to do with it, but I wasn't sure. I was thinking you might have been trying to refer only to JDM 5th gen Civic hatches and sedans, but not coupes for whatever reason.
