JDM EG6 Gauge Cluster wont get any brighter?
i just installed my JDM EG6 cluster and noticed that there is no plugs on the bottom of the cluster in the back, the stock one has 2 plugs that plug up to the bottom of the cluter, the jdm one doesnt, i dont know if that the dimmer control or not, but i thought that the cluster wasnt working, but when i got up close and looked it was working, its just that the dimmer control, wont dim the cluster to make it brighter its stuck on low anyone know?

mines also kind of dim. Its not bad at night time, the entire dash is amber, but like mid day- dusk its not very appealing. Night time ftw

Correct. And its normal for those clusters to be quite dim compared to a USDM cluster. You can get brighter bulbs though.

from where? are these said blubs amber? is it the actual cluster that makes the bulbs light up amber?

I'm not sure where you can get them, but a friend of mine has that cluster, he actually just got some bulbs where he works off the scrap pile, so I have no idea what they are or who sold them originally (they were pulled from a video lottery terminals) As for the amber part i don't specifically remember, but i can find out. I do know the USDM models use clear bulbs with a blue rubber cover over them to get that bluish light. I kinda think the JDM clear bulbs though, i'll check with my buddy and get back to you.

from what i heard, where the cluster gets the power to light it up, you can connect the dimmer straight to it, and it can dim it

one of those 2 extra clips is the actual dimmer control, cut the wire and wire it to the cluster which ever it gets the power from correct?

You probably can, i've never tried it. Like I said earlier I don't actually own an SiR cluster, too pricey for me, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't rig it up so you can dim it.

That link tells you what the wires on the 10 pin plug and 13 pin plug are for. I will look for a link that tells you about the other 2 plugs.Give a few mins to search for it.

Green 5 pin plug
D1-red/blue--cruise control light
D2-red/black--power(fuse19)
D3-BLACK--ground
D4-red--dimmer
D5-yellow-power(fuse15)
Yellow 5 pin plug
E1-black/yellow-power(fuse1)
E2-empty-n/a
E3-black-ground
E4-empty-n/a
E5-blue-srs light
That should help you out and get you started but as far as wiring the dimmer to work, Im not to sure.Im going to subscribe to this thread so post how/if you find out how to get it to work.Im Thinking of trying some LED amber bulbs to see if that makes it any brighter.Good luck

you can switch out the circuit "board" on the back of the cluster with a USDM EX one and the dimmer function will work then.
It still won't be bright.
To brighten it up a bit, you can swap out the face bezel with a US one. The US model has clear rings around the face whereas the JDM one has black (ie: no light goes through).
Hope that helps a bit. GL

I finally got around to asking my friend what he did with his. He told me he tried other bulbs he got from work, but they were designed for lower voltage, they were bright while they lasted, which wasn't long. The bulbs are clear, but he tells me if you want LEDs you need to get amber ones.
