Default JDM EG Cluster Problem. I Searched. Nothing To Do With Dimmer, SRS, Etc.

I bought this JDM EG cluster from rollydc69. It has a redline at 7,700 RPMs, it has white gauge faces like the SiR. I can't figure out what model this came from. Anyways, I searched, but there's no answer that I could find. I have a VX and tried to put this cluster in today. The fuel gauge (not light) stayed at where it was and didn't go down to where my fuel is really at. Second, my temperature needle went from cold to all the way to hot upon start up. I thought it could have been the film, so I decided to swap the gauges into my VX housing. The fuel and temperature gauges did the same thing. I stuck my VX cluster back in and everything works fine. I compared the JDM film and the USDM film for the fuel and they are the same. I am thinking the temp/fuel portion is broken. If it is broken, then the temp gauge shouldnt work at all, but it does move. I also noticed my VX tach is surpisingly synchronized with my VAFC but the tach on the JDM cluster was about 100 RPMs off. Here's the pic of the cluster.

I searched and found questions pertaining to dimmer, SRS, will it fit, will it work, low fuel indicator, etc. but nothing on the temperature gauge.

Are you running the cluster like that DC2?

although it "works" the temperature gauge is either broken or in need of calibration. I dont know how to do that however. Your tach is off by 100rpm is really no big deal, considering most OEM tach's are commonly off +/-500rpm (and you wonder why people buy aftermarket tachs)...i have the JDM cluster on a DX and everything is A-OK

My VX tach is pretty accurate if comparing it with the VAFC.

i cant help u with any info on ur problems but as far as what model the cluster comes from im guessing its an auto b16 powered car. cus the auto ecu's revlimit is a lil lower than the 5spd motors.

Probably auto B16, but with the 5-spd temp/fuel gauge. The film on the back has a cut out for the gear indicator but it's not there. Maybe that's the reason why it isn't working correctly. Then again I put that same temp/fuel gauge into my USDM housing and it does the same thing.

it's not from an auto, I've never heard of an auto b16, not to mention it would have the gear selector part b/t the temp gauge and gas gauge, good luck fixing it though. anyway, be sure to let us know what is wrong when you find out

Sorry to burst your bubble, but yes there were auto B16A's and B18C's. They dont have a normal high redline compared to the manual transmission ones. The cluster I have does have the cutout for the gear indicator as opposed to 5-spd ones where there isn't. Most likely someone swapped the auto temp/fuel for a 5-spd one. My cluster was supposed to look like this...

Auto EG6 (B16A)

5-Spd EG6 (B16A)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My cluster that I bought from rollydc69. There is a hole for the gear indicator.

Seems like a lot of people have this problem. Some people say it's the wiring when I know it's not the case with mine since my VX cluster works perfectly.

it sucks that its like noone knows how to fix this problem heh.. is it possible to just buy that whole motor/guage part for the temperature alone? like not the face or anything ,just the motor and such behind it

People have just used the USDM temp/fuel gauge and swapped over the face and needles. It works but I am afraid to break the gauge. Already broke my friend's tach. The needle with the pin came out instead of just the needle.

My solution = sold the cluster to my friend and bought a 5-spd EG6 cluster. Everything works and I am happy.

If you want to buy the gauge and swap face and needles, part 78130-SR3-A22.
