Default JDM d15b part issues.

1994 Honda Civic DX. Engine was replaced 10 years ago with a used low mileage D15b. There are no following numbers, so it leads me to believe it's a JDM engine. It appears to be non-vtech, I have no solenoid. I've recently purchased a few parts for my car; valve gasket, spark plug wires, etc. The gasket was a little too big and the wire boots don't fit down into the spark plug wells.

I purchased the NGK HE71's, but have read that this was sort of a common problem with those, and it was recommended to go with the HE73's. I popped in NGK ZFR5F-11 spark plugs, as those are the ones that match up with the manual and online searches. I also purchased a new distributor based off of the year and model of car. I haven't had a chance to try that yet though, I hope it's right.

I've done a lot of searching trying to find out what type of engine mine is and I'm just confused at this point, trying to do my own repairs and constantly coming home with the wrong parts. Any help would be appreciated. I've attached some pics, in case it helps.

For starters, that is an OBD-II motor, from a 96+ Civic .... so that's part of your problem.

Thanks for the response, but if you don't mind me asking, how can you tell that it's OBD-II?

You probably got wires for a 92-95 D15B7? You can use 92-95 Civic Si/EX/VX wires or 96-00 any model (except DOHC VTEC). Distributor for a 92-95 CX/DX/LX will bolt up fine and plug and play. You don't need an OBD2 distributor. I would suspect spark plug number is ZFR5F11.

Awesome man, thank you. I did get the wires for the D15b7, so that makes sense why they don't fit. So it's safe to say that a valve cover gasket would fall under the same rules? 92-95 Si/EX/VX? I bought one of those based off of the D15b7 and it was a little too big. Thanks for verification on spark plugs as well, at least I got those right..

Also, looking around a little more last night, it looks like my engine is a D16z6 head on a D15b block? I'm assuming that's why 92-95 DX engine parts aren't compatible? Sorry if I'm asking the same questions repeatedly, I've been racking my brain for 3 days trying to get this done. Plus I'm tired of wasting money on wrong parts lol. One last thing; I've also been trying to figure out if it's a 1.5 or 1.6, since it's taking Si parts?

So far all of the parts that I purchased based on a 94 civic with a d15b7 have not fit. The valve cover gasket, plug wires, and the distributor. It bolted on perfect but one of the plugs was wrong. I returned all of those except the distributor and ordered for a 94 del sol SI and the valve cover gasket fit perfectly. So I know that I need to get the d16z6 parts now at least! Haven't gotten the spark plug wires in the mail yet but I'm sure they will fit now (NGK HE76).

So before I return the distributor (94 civic/del sol 1.5 L Non vtech TD-41) I figured I would try it again maybe I am just an idiot with the plug not fitting. I'm pretty sure my engine is not vtec and the one for the d16z6 is a td-42 I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern is different and it says its for a vtec? Which distributor is correct? As far as I can tell from my googling the plug on my old distributor is an OBD1 shape.

And to add even more to my confusion looking at them on partsgeek it said its very common that if you went to a low mileage jdm engine you may even need the td-43? I researched that one too and from what I understand that one is for DOHC which I don't have. Scratching my head though any help is much appreciated!

Turns out the plug on the harness had a plastic piece stuck in it from the old distributor so once I got that out the TD-41 plugged in nicely. So yeah I was just an idiot with the plug! I'm relieved I got that figured out!
