Default JDM cluster install Problem

My buddy just tried to install a jdm civic cluster into his 95 civic but it doesn't light up. All the warning lights work and the needles move, but it doesn't light up when you turn the headlights on. Cluster was mine, so I know it works. Also when he hooked it up, the left head lamp fuse blew. He also tried plugging in his old cluster and it also won't light up. Is it the fuses?

Maybe check fuses and the wiring from the dimmer switch?

I'll check that, but the jdm cluster isn't wired for a dimmer, so the switch doesn't affect it.

Oh, I didn't know that, sorry. Is it plug and play like a USDM cluster swap? If that's the case, maybe it still gets voltage for the lights through the dimmer switch, I'm not sure though.

But the dimmer switch is wired in the US car. So it does affect the circuit. The dimmer might be blown. You can bypass it at the dimmer switch connector by jumping the solid red wire to black. This will give the illummination bulbs a full ground.

Ok, so we tried plugging it into another civic and everything lights up but the rpm, speed, gas, and temp don't read. WTF?
