JDM B18C vs. Chicago Emissions Question
I have a '95 Si Hatch that's running a '97 JDM B18C Type R motor (approx. 70K miles) with the Mugen chip mod and an A'Pexi VTEC controller. Otherwise, the car is almost stock.
Since I'm in Kansas, I never had to worry about emissions. But I might relocate to Chicago. What sort of emissions-testing hurdles am I going to face in Illinois?
Thanks!

Re: JDM B18C vs. Chicago Emissions Question (fmrprojects)
Yeah, I had the same Civic (original engine) in CA in 1997 and even though it was then a box stock Honda--and met the 50-state emissions requirements--I still had to pay an out-of-state fee. Two months later, I put on a Jackson Racing supercharger knowing that I wasn't due for another check for a while. Now I have the JDM B18C engine ... and I'd rather not part with it!
Way back in 1977, I took my 1966 Mini Cooper S 1275 (3/4 cam, head work, oversized SU carbs) from KS to CA. When the California inspector turned on the exhaust sensor, the meters pegged! But then I reached under the carbs, tweaked the mixture adjusters until the needles dropped into the green zones, paid him the inspection money, sputtered home, and readjusted the carbs. Life was simpler then!
