Default JDM B18C (spec R) in 99 EX

I threw out my ideas for crvtec. After doing some research and asking around I figure its not worth spending at least 5 grand on a motor that wont last. My new thoughts are with a JDM B18C spec R. What do you guys think? Better or worse than crvtec?

go with b18c spec r motor. IMO it is better than a crvtec.

Phuka Non-vtec block on a vtec head.

Go with the ITR you'll basically have everything you'll want, ITR trans, Intake Mani, Header, Cams, the high compression. Basically everything you want allready on that motor.

get the ITR and turbo that som bitch... and the crvtec is still a honda engine, so why wouldn't it be reliable

ITR is partially built so its more ready for turbo than crvtec and IMO is just the better engine anyway...

How is it more ready for turbo? The thing has high *** compression. If anything it'll be more work to turbo that thing. Best bet is to keep it NA . If you want Turbo go with straight LS or Straight B20.

Not really. Ls is actually more ideal for low boost turbo setup than an ITR anyday.

9.1 vs. 11.1 on a JDM ITR motor, so which is safer to turbo?

Exactly . Put your money into an LS or CRV, unless you really want VTEC turbo, look into purchasing a GSR motor. Turbo set up on 11:1 compression R motor is going to be tough. Yes, it's been done before successfully, but it's still not going to be easy.

OK I dont want my motor to be knocking. Spark plugs are there to spark my motor. I dont need to turbo an 11.0:1 CR motor and have it spark whenever it wants.

The reason LSVtec and CRVtec motors die after a while is because they werent meant to have VTEC heads on them. THey dont have the proper oil squirt holes, and aren't balanced enough to handle a vtec head, not to mention a whole lot of other stuff.

I think i'll just go with the B18C spec R motor. Any ideas on reducing weight though?

This isn't necessarily true. If you have the correct plumbing done for the oil and run an oil pump off a Vtec equipped motor (e.g. ITR, GSR, etc) You should have no problems at all. A friend of mine has been running a high comp LS/Vtec for the past 3 years, car runs very strong, and gives a lot of people a run for their money.
money. It's mainly on who builds the motor and how they go about doing it.
