Default JDM B18C/B18C5 Engine Question (valve noise)

I've been a long time reader of this forum, first time posting/registering, I find this forum great and hopefully you guys/girls can help me out. I've just finished up my 3rd project car, which is a 93 eg hatch Si w/ a JDM B18C swap. My first 2 project cars were a 91 ef hatch w/ a b16 and a 88 CRX w/ a b16. On my first two projects (using a b16) and barely noticed any valve noise (maybe also cuz it was a 99 Si motor w/ 21K miles). Now with my JDM B18C (type-R) motor in my eg I notice my valves ticking a lot louder. I got the motor from hmotorsonline, spoke w/ the owner (cant remember his name at the moment) says it's a great motor, 97 spec, and only had 25K miles. The motor runs great, dont get me wrong, when I got the motor and replaced the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, clutch, basically all wear items. The only problem I dealing maybe is the fact that the valve train is a bit louder then my b16, I've done a search here on Honda-Tech, and many Type-R owners also complain about valve noise. I also thought that because I put on a DC Sports JDM 4-1 header when I first did the swap could also contribute to the valve noise (I put the header on the same time I did the swap, I never heard the motor w/ a stock header). Now recently (last week) I just installed a set of Skunk2 stage 1 cams and did the valve lash to sk2 specs, the valve noise is now a tiny bit louder then before, but not much. My question is, does the type-R motor have a louder valve train the any other b-series, maybe because it has lighter valves (same part# as other b-series valves, but lighter right?), or can there be something wrong w/ my motor or Im I just paranoid? Hopefully the moderator will see this post (egb18c) cuz I know he knows much about these motors. Thanks for any opinions/answers, this forum has helped me a lot before and I wasn't even registered, thanks, now that I am hopefully it'll be more helpful, thanks.

Martin

My c5 is the same way. Even with valve lash set correctly.

I've noticed it on other itr motors also.

thx slopoke, hearing that from another type-r owner makes me feel a lot better, I wonder why they are louder the b16's or maybe GSR's (never really listen to a GSR), I've always thought the b16/typ-r valves were the same part # but the type-r's were lighter for some reason, maybe they're louder due to them being lighter? Thanks again slopoke.

it's not just that motor, my D16Y8 with I/H/E has the noise even right after a vavle adjustment. so im thinking it's just the exhaust it self

Honestly I'm not sure if it's louder or not.

If it would ever stop raining here in GA I'd take the cover off of my car, warm it up, and listen to the valves.

Then I can let our B16A2 hatch warm up and compare the two.

I *guess* mine's a bit louder than other B series, but until I do the side-by-side comparison I won't know for sure.

Thx for the replies. Like I said earlier, I did have a 99 B16 swap before (in a CRX which was sold) and I drove that car for at least a year and I was use to the valve noise of that motor, now w/ the type-r I can definitly hear a differce, the type-r is much louder, I just hope everything is OK and the motor has no probs, again I may just be paranoid, thx again for the replies.
