JDM B16 overheating issue...help desired
Here's the issue I am currently having. I have a 93 DX with a JDM B16 swap. When I drive the car, I have to leave the heating settings on defrost and hot, even if the fan is off. For some reason, if i move the slider to cool and don't even turn the fan on, the car will drive normal for a few minutes, and then start to overheat at a pretty rapid pace. But then if i turn the sliders back to hot defrost on high fan, the temp gauge drops back down to normal operating temperature. does anyone know what is making the temperature increase and decrease so rapidly? it gets annoying having to drive around in the summer because when it's already hot out, i'll occasionally get blasted in the face with a random burst of hot air haha. I've already changed the water pump and thermostat, neither of which have had any change on the condition. Has anyone experienced this or have any advice to help fix it? I would really like to try and get it fixed so I can have at least some cool air to come out and go through the cabin if it is raining and i cant drive with my windows down. oh and i don't have any a/c hooked up, i don't know if that has any effect or no, and i have not been losing any coolantt. Thanks for the help.

That's all you've checked?
Does the fan come on?
Check/change the thermostat?
Air in the coolant system?
Radiator need replacing?

the radiator is new when the engine was put in, the thermostat and water pump were replaced, don't think the fan is an issue because it's not when the car is stopped and idling. this is when the car is driving down the road. didn't check the air in the coolant system. how would i go about doing that? i don't think that would be an issue though

You don't think so? You don't think air in the system would be a problem? Or that your thermostat could be bad? Aren't you the one asking for help? If you're going to try and dismiss everything people suggest to you then you shouldn't bother posting.

no, i understand air in the system could obviously be a problem, that is why i asked how i would go about checking for that. the thermostat is not bad because i replaced in 3 days ago. i am not dismissing anything you are saying.

To bleed air, just run the engine with the radiator cap off until thermostat opens, it's when it bubbles, then just fill the radiator till it's full.
