Japan D15B, Vtec = What Car in the USA?
Hey Everyone,
I purchased a low-mileage D15B, Vtec supposedly just off the boat from Japan to replace the blown engine in my 1992 Civic.
I now need to replace the ignition control module in the distributor (in addition would like to get a spare distributor) and can't go to NAPA without knowing which car in the USA this engine came in?
I think it came in the '91 - '95 CRX...can anyone verify this?
Thanks,
Frank

There are literally like 4 (possibly more) versions of the D15B VTEC engine.
In order to know which you have we'd need to see pics of the distributor, oil dipstick, VTEC valve, and cylinder head year stamp.
...but to answer your question about the igniter the part number is the same, 06300-P2E-305 for 1992-2000 Civics regardless of trim level, engine size, as long as it's a SOHC model.
Now as for the distributor we'd need a few pics of your current one to get you the right USDM vehicle it matches. Plug type and clocking of mounting ears is crucial in knowing which car to order for.
Also might I make a suggestion:
Forget NAPA CRAPA parts for distributor and/or igniter.
Google the Honda part number I supplied you with as type "Hitachi" along with it and you should find one for about $150.00. Example here of one for $167.00 as my first result from a Google Search <-- clickable
Honda wants $239.00+ for the exact same unit as Hitachi makes it for them. Do not settle for inferior parts store junk.
If you want a distributor you need to search for a Distributor King/Richporter Technologies unit once we figure out which model you need. The entire unit can be had for probably $175.00 or so depending on what model you actually need. they come 100% complete from base to coil, igniter, pick-up sensors, rotor button, and cap all ready to install. Personally I'd go this route rather than buying an individual igniter.

Thanks for the message.
Please see the photos of the engine and distributor I took last night at:
http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g3...ivic%20Engine/
I found on Wiki (probably not a valid source of info for this) that this engine (D15B w/130hp - that's what I was told when I purchased this engine) came in the 1991-1995 Honda CRX Del Sol VXi EG1 (America Market).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D15B
With the photos can you point me to where to look so I can order a distributor with any confidence?
Really appreciate the assist.
Frank

D16Z6/D15Z1 distributor. Either order for a VX hatchback or EX/Si. Head, intake manifold etc all correspond to an EX/Si, bottom end *mostly* corresponds to a VX. Rods are the same as an EX/Si though, crank and pistons are unique to the D15B Vtec. Rings are VX.

Re: Japan D15B, Vtec = What Car in the USA?
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
batallic - What model/year does the d16z6 come in?
FranklinWalker - the car died on the way to work. Let it cool off and it got me home. This happened 5 years ago and it was the igniter in the distributor. My son had to take the distributor to a Stealer and of course the parts guy needed the model and year before he could punch a key in the computer. My son finally asked to see a mechanic who has experience with jpn motor swaps. This guy went to the parts bin and found one that fit and worked. I forget to record the part number...wish I had now!
94EG8 - great info. Now what model/year does the D16Z6/D15Z1 come in?
If there is a spreadsheet somewhere some one can refer me too?
Thanks again,
Frank
