Ive done my research but still am undecided....
Ok here it is.... I have a 94 EX coupe. Its got the stock Z6 motor in it along with a couple bolt ons, suspension, wheels etc etc. My dillema: I have been trying to decide now for awhile which I would like to do....
A Bolt on a JRSC along with a Bisi header.
or
B Replace motor with a 94 B18b motor and B16 tranny.
This car is basically my daily driver during the summer....I love driving it and I dont drive it too easy. It pretty much gets its *** handed to it alot. But I maintain her nice and always on schedule.
Now I know these two options are pretty different....but i do like the idea of the JRSC for the boost and the good reliability....but there isnt much you can do after that really... I could build the motor etc... with the LS I could start out with the motor maybe some cams then I could do a JRSC....
Im not a 1/4 mile guy i just like somthin that is fast on the street stoplight to stoplight. No im not talking about a setup for street racing etc (Thats against the law and Im employed to uphold it ) Im just talking a fun car ok for everyday driving. Ive hit a wall with this one and well I would really like to take the first step (Either buy the JRSC for the d16 or buy the b18b) really soon. What do you think??

Yeah I realize that.....but Im just lookin for like 180whp and maybe somthin that would do a 14.5-14.0 in the 1/4..... just enough to have a fairly quick daily driver. That is why I am kinda leaning towards the b18b.....

Do the swap dude. The D series with the S/C will yeild maybe the same amount of HP as the B18 swap. Ive heard bad things about their superchargers in general. Leaky seals, stuff breaking, weird noises, etc. The B18 will probly get you in the low 15's bolt in. Do some minor bolt ons and you can get into the 14's. Later on you can turbo it... lovely.

Ok so the B16 trannies are all the same right? Like the gearing? So a delsol b16 tranny from say 94 is gonna be the same as a 00 SI? Either way Ill be getting crappy mileage on the highway?

my gas mileage didn't change when i changed transmissions
if you constantly drive aggresively then, yeah your mileage will go down, but that happens with an LS tranmission too

Definately go with the b18 ... more tq for daily driving... I wouldnt say you would get crappy fuel mileage on the highway.. i guess its all in the tuning.. or what you compare to ...but i put alot of k's on my lsvtec with itr tranny(same gearing as 00b16tranny) except different final drive. It has never had gas milaege that is that bad.. maybe i just look at it different because i drive a 00 dodge quad cab 4x4 to work and back

i know you said you dont want to turbo, but with the z6 its a good move to make. it will resonpd real well, and for you it will be everything your looking for. just think about it for a while and then start looking for people selling their used kits.

No i dont THINK its less reliable, I really dont like the sudden burst of power after the lag, Id rather have the power throughout the whole band, and yes i know I could go get a smaller turbo and have less lag. But its not that, I just dont want that it in my car. Id probably be buying the charger used since you can pick up a JRSC for about $1k.

it seems like your stuck on the jrsc, either way i would still start off with the b18.. the charger on a dseries is not really worth the 1k IMO... i would buy the b18b and then throw it on there for 1k .. now thats worth the 1k

What kinda Mileage you get now?
My 00 SiR (Canadian Si) gets around 30+ MPG on the highway.
Which isn't bad for a "race inspired engine"

Yeah see thats where Im confused.... people say that at like 60mph Ill be at like 3600rpms and on the highway that seems to be pretty high for 5th gear and im assuming that wouldnt yield me 30mpg. Right now I have a Z6 and I get about 35-to almost 40mpg on the highway and in the city i get 30mpg. Well as long as im not beating it... hehe

Well at 75 MPH my car makes 4000 RPM which is Half what the B16A2's Redline so it is not like your taxing the engine. VTEC at that point is 1500 RPM Away
At 60 it is making around 3200.
So on I would assume on a engine with a lower redline making more revs would hurt gas mileage
