Default it's time for: name that part!! *pics*

ok, what is this?? it came off my transmission right above where the shift linkage connects into the transmission itself... got any ideas??

vss.. vehicle speed sensor. goes in from the top of the tranny, passenger side.. almost right under the throttle body.

Like mentioned above...

VSS - Vehical Speed Sensor

It's basicllay the pickup for your speedo. The lines running off it are for power steering assist. They are used to reduce the amount of powersteering you get at higher rate of speeds since it is not nesscary. Most people including myself just loop a peice of hose from one to the other to seal them off and forget about them all together.

Alstare explained it pretty well.

but i'd just connect the hoses where they were meant to be since its not like its hard. i'd want my power steering to vary at given speeds.

anyways, just be careful when putting that sensor back in.. make sure its all the way back into the tranny or else you will brake the ear off the VSS when trying to put the screw back in. it is an aluminum housing and its VERY weak.

yeah if you have the hoses mine as well hook them up. I have a civic so there not there, and I wasn't thinking about ludes when I posted, I tend to do that sorry.

yea the speed sensor on my civic doesn't have hoses running into it for power steering assist. Its just a sensor there.

I've seen them (w/ hoses) on older civics w/ cable tranny (ie: my friend's 4g si) both my 5g's and my mom's old 6g had no ps. lines and neithe did my gsr or my ls speed sensor.

that's odd... so will i be safe just to connect it...

and just to make sure, my tranny says "P20 A000" hydro, right??


edit: could the VSS possible be froma cable tranny??

thats what I was going to say, I've never seen a hydro trans with that kind of VSS. . .

Thats a VSS and those 2 lines go to the power steering for the VSS adjust the Power steering effect tightns steering under high speeds

haha, i was kinda wondering the same... but at least i know it's a VSS... i just don't know what tranny it came from since i have a hydro, and people have said that they've only seen this version on a cable.... weird
