ITR Tranny
USDM or JDM ITR Trannies, are they worth the money?
Best set up in an ls/vtec setup? Why?
I searched and didn't really get a clear answer, help me out. Thanks guys

Both trannies will be good. I'd choose a Type R tranny for an LS/VTEC setup, because it's a nice close geared tranny.
I think the only difference between the JDM and USDM Type R tranny is the JDM has a higher final drive.

Re: ITR Tranny (lazy bum shaughn)
96-97 JDM ITR tranny has 4.4 final drive, and everything inside of it is the same as a US 99-00 Si tranny.
98+ JDM ITR tranny has 4.785 final drive, and the 4th and 5th gear are different (I forget what they are exactly), but it's not going to matter too much..
What would I suggest? I have no clue.. NOT the 98+ spec ITR tranny though. Would you really want a final drive that high?

so basically with the 98+ jdm itr tranny you wouldn't have alot of top end power is what your saying?
but you will top out early on the freeway. top speed wise

I would actually go a little longer gears. GSR or even an LS transmission.
i heard of an ITR motor with an LS transmission run a 1/4 miles faster than the ITR transmission did.
just because it has the torque to get through those gears and the high rpm power.
but an itr transmission is fine if you want to spend that much.

Re: ITR Tranny (Doctor CorteZ)
I had a 98+ JDM ITR Tranny on my 99GSR and I absolutely loved it. It has the same 1-3 gears as a USDM ITR and all JDM ITRs, but it has the USDM GSR 4 & 5 gears, BUT it also has the higher 4.785 FD so 1-3 is sooo very quick and 4 & 5 are much quicker just not as blistering quick as it would've been if it still had the other ITR 4 & 5 gears. It was just like driving a USDM ITR at highway speeds in 4th and 5th, but 1-3 were incredible, I loved it. I think it would be great for your set-up, only for VERY high hp cars(mainly forced induction) would I not reccomend this tranny(longer gears would be 'better'), but in your case I think it will help out a bit, and very enjoyable and suitable for the street. This tranny will be going into my hatch when I build it along with all the other remnants from my totalled GSR as listed below in my sig. Later, enjoy

Why?
Because the 4.78 tranny has taller GS-R-spec 4th and 5th gears. The 4.78FD tranny has a .787 5th gear while the 4.400 FD has a .848
I've owned an ATS 4.929FD in my ITR tranny and I loved it. I broke mine but I'm buying another because I loved it so much.
Guys please know exactly what you're talking about when you post. This misinfo stuff is annoying.
Do the math - multiply 4.78 x .787 and then do up 4.400 x .848
What did you get?

I know a guy with a boosted Civic Si that put in an LS tranny and it ruined his 1/4 mile times and trap speeds and he's pushing way more power than an ITR or any LS/VTEC could ever push.
LS trannies suck **** for all motor - period.
I'm not trying to be an ******* but it's just that once you drive an LS trannied DOHC VTEC and then hop in a good old B16A-trannied one the VTEC tranny is so much quicker.
How could an LS tranny be quicker? If it's an ITR you would most certainly drop out of VTEC between the 1,2 and 2,3 shifts for sure, and probably even the 3,4 shift. The 4.26 FD in the LS doesn't help either.
I'm not even a big fan of the taller-geared GS-R tranny either - I owned one and it wasn't as nice as a B16A/Type R tranny.

Re: ITR Tranny (B18C5-EH2)
With the LS tranny/USDM GSR tranny, you also wont have LSD. Of course, i think you'll have enough money saved for a lsd unit. Both have advantages/disadvantages

Re: ITR Tranny (B18C5-EH2)
I guess it kinda makes sense to have taller gears so that you're holding more boost for a longer time, but that doesn;'t mean the wheels are turning any faster. My room mate was thinking about putting an Ls tranny in his Turbo ITR... and that would be a sad day to me. I talked him out of it just because of the advantages of the ITR tranny. Look at the rally cars. They're boosted but do they have taller gears?? No.

Re: ITR Tranny (Emerica)
the JDM ITR tranny....4.7 final drive..with lsd......very goood
hmm...not the most ideal for slamming gears....the tranny is quite fragile....
i even know stories of tranny's shattering on the dyno...
i thinks its worth the money..the acceleration is awesome...
just be carefull with it...
