ITR simply quit and now won't start?? Need some advice...
Well, I have searched these threads for days to find someone, anyone who might have had this problem:
I recently did a B18C1 swap into my 99 EK.
Been awesome... until three days ago...
I'm driving home after a day of city driving, and the engine literally quits... just like that. Full of fuel, the the dash lights come on and the engine quits - of course the check engine light trips too!
Naturally, I try to start it... no go.
Oil: good. Fluids: good.
Get it home - try some carb clearner in the throttle body - doesn't take...
Check the fuses - had to replace one (15amp)
Undo the neg. bat cable to reset the ECU, give it a boost to start.... CRANK, CRANK, CRANK... no start...
Check the plugs... look good...
Check the distributor, check the coil, check the rotor, check for spark... IT ALL CHECKS OUT...
So what the hell am I dealing with? Do I grab a $125 code reader?
How do I check timing?
I can't hear the fuel pump whine, but the carb cleaner suggests it isn't starving for fluid... and I don't really know what to listen for anyways.
How do I check to see if it's an ECU problem?
Thanks fo the help boys... I'm sure there might be some posts/threads with this topic, but I'm at my wits end... a little "out-side" perspective might be nice.
thanks

I think so... I mean, I sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle body... and nothing happened. If it wasn't getting fuel, you think the carb-cleaner would catch...
I'll have another listen with the back seat out... thanks
p.s.
So I don't have an ITR - Intergra Type R motor with a B18C? Hmmm? Red top? What do I have then?

samething happend to me, after checking everything i just hot wired the bitch now i gots a push start. this happend to another friend of mine, hes got a push start now too i believe what happend to both of us is somehow the power wire going to the starter fried hence when we put 12volts to the starter it started right up.

i ran into a similar problem as well. The motor died on me twice in a 2 days. The second time it wouldnt even crank until minutes later. Drove home, checked it out, let it idle. It worked as if nothing ever happened . Could it be the dizzy?

i stand corrected - I have a B18C5 - ITR...
shame on me...
so I will check the dizzy and let you know... thanks again gents for the help -
i'm also gonna grab an OBD2 code reader... what the hell right? I mean, I'm sure I'll throw another code as my wife will never let me buy another vehicle after this project!

so i pulled the spark plug and no spark!
i plugged in the OBD2 code reader and i get the ERR1 reading...
it MIGHT be the coil, but it MIGHT be the friggin ECU/PCM...
can anyone point me in the right direction on diagnosing a bad ECU?
(i tried the code reader on my van - and it worked flawlessly!)
so my car gives it an error, but every other vehicle i've tried it on reads and works right!
pretty frustrated...

im not kidding, try to hot wire it, put 12volts to the starter with the key in the on position and car in neutral. i had this same problem. turned out to be a bad starter wire.
