Issues with 2000ex
Well the search on this forum is useless.. for no apparent reason at all, my car starts acting up last night and I can't figure out what the problem is.
I start it up like usual, and it sounds very deep, like it's mis firing or something. Oil level is fine, everything seems to be up to par like usual but the car wont run right. I've got a flashing Check Engine light.. how can I check what code it is throwing on my own?
It's done this before but turning it off, then back on fixed it.. its a y8 motor w/ 63k miles and I drive it like a baby.
Help..

Re: Issues with 2000ex (Sivic2000)
since it's a 2000 car it's a obd2 ecu, take it over to your local parts store and have them hook up the computer to it. IT'S FREE! they should be able to tell you what sensor is causing the problem.
but if i had to guess, sounds like a map sensor issue. but that's just my $0.02

it's located on top of the throttle body. it's black with a wire harness connected.
but don't start trouble shooting yet, take it over to the store and have them run a diagnostic.

It's probably throwing the cylinder misfire code. Check/replace your spark plugs/cap/rotor. Also don't use anything other than NGK copper spark plugs. The platinum or other exotic metal plugs don't work very well in honda engines.

well.. I couldn't make much of that article but what I did do is I found the harness that has 2 wires on it.. I jumped them together and when I turn the key the light will flash 3 times (short) then go off.. then flash 3 more times.. it keeps doing that..
Does that mean i'm throwning a code 3?
for the 92-95civic that means MAP

yes that means it's the map sensor, so i was right!
code 3 actually means that the map sensor itself is bad and needs to be replaced.
code 5 is also a map sensor code, but it's for the indication that there is a leak.
your best bet to replacing the map sensor is picking one up on ebay (used). that's the cheapest. other than that you'll be looking at around $200 for a new one.
*EDIT* - if the map sensor is bad the CEL will flash, actually you should have had a CEL on already.

ok.. so this is interesting.. I tapped on cyl#4 fuel injector w/ a screw driver and the car started running prime, unhooked the battery, hooked everything back up..no more cel and its running good as new
whats up with that
oh and when I was testing the code the freakin' MAP was disconnected at that point >

that sounds weird. i know recently when i had my code 3, i replaced my map sensor. well my dumbass forgot to connet the hose that runs to it (since i have the map that mount to the firewall). i started the car up and let it idle for about 10 minutes, ran fine. so i take it for a test drive, drove for about 10 more moinutes until the car acted up again. that's when i got the code 5.
i would guess everything worked fine since you cleared the ecu, but eventually it's going to happen again. if the map sensor is bad i do recommend you replacing it.
