Default Introduction / 3-stage VTEC questions

Hello Everyone,
Im new to Honda-Tech and got drawn to the site by having to continuosly open up your forums to get info on for my Honda. Everything here is very usefull so I signed up and I hope you can help me out.
Ok so I got a 95 Civic Ex with a JDM D15B
I really need to get this 3 stage VTEC thing working so I can tune my car properly.
I am running a p28 ecu stock with both vtec solenoids connected together. My VTEC is opening at aroud 4200 (on my Ex cluster).
I need to be able to open up my 16 valves at 2700 rpm so I got a VTEC controller. I still need to get it hooked up but is there a better way to do this?
I was thinking chipped P28 with D15B map and tunning the 12 valve mode with a piggyback. Help Please!

Some Pics of my car

D15b 3-stage VTEC, Z6 intake mani, AEM V2 CAI, MSD spark plug wire, 2" exhaust, classic BBS wheels, adjustable coilovers.

i take it your trying to acheive the best of both worlds fuel economy and performanc but wiring both solenoids together is not going to fix your problem, that needs to get put back how it should be! not sure but i think the 3 stage VTEC d15b is obd2 so your p28 (obd1) is not going to help you out!

I think you need to NOT run that P28 and get the correct ECU.

the correct ecu is for a VCT automatic transmission. It will not work and its very hard to get. I dont want an automatics Im working with a 5 speed tranny

what im trying is to get it hooked up correctly thats the point of the thread. I already know its not hooked up right but it runs and its not an easy setup to do.

Yes I want both fuel economy down low and some power up top

Why would the correct ECU be for an automatic if you're running a 5-speed? Trying to understand the logic.

Hey Buddy, congrats on the car and the great engine you have.

Check this link for more info, this guy knows his D15B very well and has a good section explaining how you need a P2J ECU on his site:

Good luck,

I also have a 3 stage vtec question, I recently swapped a D15B into my EJ8. I called the shop i got my motor from and they told me to to hook one of the solenoid wires up to the original vtec wire from the original harness and run the other solenoid wire to the biggest connector on the ECU, and splice it into a yellow wire w/ silver or black stripe, i cant remember which. Anyways does this sound correct at all? I've driven it around for about two weeks with no problems yet but Ive been curious about that part.

Doesnt really sound right. Which stage did you hook up to the vtec wire?
