Re: Another '96 ITR hub question...
With the help from Russell^^^^, I was able to successfully swap out the rear assembly from an 98-02 Accord. Swap took me about 2.5 hours for one side. I used an angle grinder to shave down the hubs. Not sure how long they will last, but we will have to see.
Here's what I did - Ordered Timken assemblies and protege axle nuts from Rockauto.com. Paid $125 shipped for everything. Measurements just to check what Russell said before is true. Everything checks out.
This is a measurement of the "curved", smaller part.
Empty spindle:
Accord hub tested on spindle:
Axle nut comparison. Basically the same, but the Protege axle nut just has less threads on it. OEM on the right:
OEM axle nut on Accord hub:
Protege axle nut on Accord hub:
Hub comparison:
After about 2 hours of grinding - I used my rotor to "test" if the hub was at the correct size.
Back on the car after grinding:
Rotor on (don't mind the digs it in - stupid screws in the rotors were stuck):
I reused the OEM rotors. If 4x100 Integra rotors are used, you will need to redrill to 4x114 and make the hub hole larger (per Russell, I haven't tried yet)
The only thing is that there is no hole for the screws to keep the rotor in place. Good riddance is what I say. I hate those things. Drove the car around on the highway and no problems. I will be sure to keep this updated about how everything handles being driven daily once I get the car inspected and back on the road.

Just a quick update. The other side (bearing) was done yesterday. Only 10 miles on the set up currently. No problems of course. Car is going to become my DD next weekend after inspection.

One of my rear bearings went out on my 96 itr break conversion. And I was able to successfully replace it 98 accord drumb break hub assembly. I on the other hand didn't even grind down the where the axle nut goes. I just got the diameter brought down so my rotors would fit. I just want to say thanks for your research and work it helped me out a lot. Only about a 100km's so far on the hub assembly no problems yet.

I will pop in for an update, too. Maybe about 1500 miles on the setup and no problems. I didnt have to shave anything near the axle nut. You have to bore out and re-drill OEM Integra rear brakes to fit if you need replacement rotors.

just a quick one. does this throw the rotor out by 8mm now? if you used brand new rotors and pads, would you even get them to fit?

Just posted this link in another forum, so it makes sense to update it.
The car has been my DD for the past year, easily 12k miles and no problems. I will keep updating this as long as I have the car!

Russ did you ever find out the diameter of the cl hub? The rotors being too large may be taken care of by doing the 10" rear disc upgrade with rsx caliper brackets. Just throwing out the possibility, not saying Ive attempted this yet.

Thanks for posting, Chris! You may be right. I was looking for an option that wouldn't require modifying the rotors/ calipers, but it may be more easy after all than grinding the hubs down to seat into the ITR rotor.
I've included alot more info. in my other thread.

Re: Interchangeability of rear '96 ITR hub and other Honda vehicles?
Hello, i have some question about the Integra Type R 96 rear hub interchangeability. I have a rear hub bearing bad.....so i bought an accord 98-02 rear hub drum, and i did the same process like you. My question is if you use the LOCK WASHER with the Protege nut?? You put the LOCK WASHER or Just use the Protege Nut?? Tell me if you have some problem?? Tell about the secreto of this process?....... I Will appreciate your Help! Thanks??

Re: Interchangeability of rear '96 ITR hub and other Honda vehicles?
Thanks for this post. I just ordered Timken 512178 and am going to attempt to do this. My DB8 Type R has ABS so I opted for the hub with the ABS ring. It has the same # of teeth as OEM but the diameter of the ring might be slightly off. Also do not know if it will line up with the factory sensor location. I will post updates once I get it done. Thanks again for the info.

This hub appears to have the same bearing height as stock but the flange still needs to be reduced.

Re: Interchangeability of rear '96 ITR hub and other Honda vehicles?
I mounted the new hub assembly today. The ABS tone ring hits the ABS sensor. I took two small washers and spaced out the ABS sensor so it clears the tone ring. Used Mazda Protege nut torqued to 135 ft/lbs. We now have solutions for both ABS and non-ABS vehicles. 96 spec owners rejoice!
Tone ring hitting sensor.
The ABS sensor comes through a slot in the brake heat/dust shield. It is held in by a series of 10mm bolts. Removal and installation is extremely self explanatory. Insert a washer between the vehicle/sensor before inserting the sensor mounting bolts.
The ABS tone ring will now clear the sensor.
