Integra Type R oil pump on B16A2 timing cover issue
Hey guys! I changed my oil pump to a Yamada from a Type R since it was a perfect fit for the b16 anyways, and I had heard it would dish out a few psi more than the original b16a2 pump, but when i bought it i forgot to check if the lip the pump has for the lower timing belt cover gasket was the same, and wouldn't you know, it isn't! LOL, stupid old me... I was wondering if any of you know if I purchase a Type R lower timing cover (the b18 one, so to speak), it would fit in the same block holes as the original b16 lower cover (of course, i know my gasket problem would be solved, but from the oem parts images the cover seems smaller in size compared to the b16 one). I'm kind of uneasy about rolling with the lower part of the belt (plus crankshaft gear) with no protection, LOL, so it's basically sitting in my garage for now.
Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

You just need the correct cover & cover gasket to match the oil pump. All the bolt holes on the block are the same (just the ones on the pump are different). Keep in mind that if you didn't put the crank sensor in there, there is going to be a hole to let dust in where the crank sensor's wire would normally pass through. The crank sensor wire has a grommet on it that plugs up this hole.

Awesome! Thanks for the response! Yeah, I totally need to order the Type R cover then! But what do I do about the crank sensor??? I mean, my B16A2 is probably Japanese, since I'm from Argentina and my EG6 is a european VTi... which is basically the japanese SiR without airbags and left hand drive... I assume my crank sensor is somewhere near the flywheel on the B16, whereas on the B18 its as you say, near the pulley... Thing is, do I just duct tape the grommet for the other sensor so I have no dust coming into the cover?? And also, thanks for the incredible explanatory pics

Your B16A doesn't have a crank sensor at all, so no need to worry about adding one. The crank sensor was added to OBD2 cars in the US to detect misfires for emissions purpose. All you need is a grommet to fill the hole. Perhaps search a hardware store. If not, try filling the hole with rtv or something.

Geez, for all the trouble, the OP would have been better off just buying a 92-93 B17, or 94-95 B18C pump.....they would have fit with no issues and offered exactly the same performance.
Also note to other that for newer oil pumps.......all below are EXACTLY the same
- 97-01 ITR
- 96-01 GSR
- 97-01 B20
- 98-01 B18B
