hey..
i drive a 93 civic Si HB w/ stock intake and a k&n drop in filter..
it has been suggested to me that i take out my stock intake resonator.. i was just wondering.. what the benefits are if i do this..
ive been told that it will allow more air in to the intake system..? is this true..
and ive also been told that it will increase the sound a bit (not that it matters..)

what are all your opinions on this.. sorry if its a n00b type question

hey man.
ya, it will allow a bit more air into the intake box...but dont expect any huge difference..the only difference you'll notice is a lot more noise, which you might assume as extra power, but no...its just more noise...i did it to my hatch with an old AEM short ram i had laying around..its something to do i guess...but if you can't take your bumper off (if you got rusty bolts) the resonater is a bitch to take out.

well im taking my car into the shop 2morrow to get somethings done and they're removing the front bumper.. so im thinking.. might as well take out the resonator while im there..
but im just wondering if i should or not.. like are there any negative effects and such..

how much noise are we talking about? i dont want it annoying the hell out of me

How about when you remove your front bumper and take off the resonator, you buy yourself a 4" dryer hose and fix it so that you get all the cold air from behind the headlight. Than you tape it where you want it to stay stiff and keep shape. You than invest in heat wrap, take off your intake tube going from your TB to your airbox and you wrap it with the heat wrap and coat it. If my theory serves right, you will allow more cold air to enter the airbox and keep it cool going to the intake manifold, resulting in gains in power. I do not know how much power, but it wont cost you more than $20-$30 from homedepot and it will be worth it if it does work!

Take the resonator off and use it to make a "cold air" extension. That's what I did (had some time to kill).

Please explain in more detail how you used it to make a cold air extension. I want to hear other techniques.

Unbolt the "U" part of the resonator, cut it in half, duct tape it back together the opposite that it was, connect to the filter box and adjust to your liking, and cut off the excess. It's ghetto, but it's also free and something to do so I'm not complaining. It also holds up very well if you wrap the duct tape around enough and as far as the possibility of hydrolock, there really is none. I drove through some large storms/puddles that swept through Ohio last week and no problem.

No negitives about removing the resanator. If you want cold air do it right and buy a cold air intake, don't half *** and don't cut corners.
