Default Which Intake Manifold to use? Z6 or Y8? Specific to my manual swap not a comparison.

I am in the middle of a manual swap on my D16Z6 Civic. It’s a ’95 EJ1. I am having the head and the block worked on by a machine shop. I’ll be getting the block and head back from the shop torqued to spec with the oil pan and valve and timing covers on. I’ll complete the rest of the work myself.

My only concern at the moment for this manual swap is the intake manifold and throttle body. I currently have both the z6 (original to my motor) and the y8 IM’s (acquired from a ’96 Del Sol when purchasing manual parts).

I know everyone states that the y8 is the best flowing d series OEM IM available. However, I’d just like to get her running again. Keep her clean, keep her simple and keep her mostly stock after the rebuild. I’m not looking for a lot of power at the moment. When the funds are available, I’d like to go K series.

So, for now, with that said, I’d like to know which would be the best set up concerning these IM’s?

I’m thinking it’d be best to keep my z6 IM so I don’t have to do a lot of work to the y8 IM (http://www.d-series.org/forums/diy-f...p-onto-z6.html) and just swap the throttle body to a manual one? This way I can stay ODBI and still use my z6 distributor as well? Suggestions/advice/previous experience helpful.

Answered your own question. Either way, they both bolt on so it's not like it's that much of a difference effort-wise.

I guess this is the conformation that I needed. That's the girl in me. lol Better to ask now than get this back in the car only to swap intakes then IMO.

No harm no foul in asking. Most times when I have students talk out their frustration with a task they answer their own question. Also, K.I.S.S. comes to mind so I think for your personal task just use the Z6 manifold and keep it simple...(insert "s" word here). LOL

There's no difference between an automatic and manual Z6 throttlebody or IM other than the throttlebody has the extra pulley on it for the kickdown cable.

Running a Y8 IM on a Z6 head will cause cylinder 3 to lean out a bit and run hot. I'd run the original Z6 IM.
