Intake install on 97 accord

Intake install on 97 accord
My buddy just picked up a short ram intake for his 97 accord and asked me a question about it. I went out to take a look and i'm stumped -
Basically, the resonator that sits under the stock pipe seems to go into some box underneath the actual intake box.. which then has a vacuum line running into something else? I couldn't really see because it was dark - but how does he install the short ram with that? What is it? I've installed intakes on 4 cars now and never seen anything like it, my civic didn't even have it.

First of all wrong forum. This forum is CIVIC/DEL SOL. No where does it say Accord. So even though this is for a friend and you probably own a civic, you would get a better answer from a actual accord forum don't you think?
