Default Intake Gasket Leak

Hey guys

I have a coolant leak that looks like its coming from the rear of the intake gasket. I'm selling the car so I really don't want to spend the money to change the gasket especially since I just put $500 into the car for other cooling issues. Is there any sealer that I can use to patch up the leak?

If the rubberized portion of it (assuming OEM gasket) is still intact you can try putting some Hondabond or Permatex Grey around it. If it's one of them graphite Felpro ones, spend the $20 or so it costs and replace it.

You're selling the car, and can't afford the $30 for an intake manifold gasket, so you'd rather offload the issue onto the next owner?

People like you are one of the reasons car people hate Honda people.

I'm not looking to fix a car to break down a few days from now, Im no sleezy salesman. I'm just looking for an alternative, and its $20 but the labor involved is a lot more.

I am not putting a cheap fix at the expense of my integrity. Before you jump to conclusions hear out the story.

So by this statement then I take it you're paying someone else to do the install?

You can't take an hour out of your Saturday to fix it properly? That's literally all of the "labor" involved.

An intake manifold gasket? Hell no. You remove the intake (7 nuts, done), scrape off the old gasket, apply the new gasket, bolt back on, and bleed your coolant. Done. Hour job, maybe two.

Nothing hard, just time consuming.

three if the old gasket is adhered to the intake manifold and you need to do a little more than just "scraping", but easily doable on your own.

BTW what engine is it that we're talking about OP?

Replacing the gasket requires removing the fuel rail, removing sensors and dismounting the entire manifold, not just the intake .

And I would prefer not to do it myself but if its not going to take long I will

Whoa

No it doesn't.

You can leave the entire fuel rail, injectors, everything mounted, even the fuel line... you've just gotta be careful.

At most, you should remove the air box, drain the coolant line going to the IM, and shimmy everything else out of the way.

You'll need to remove the 7 or so bolts and that should be about it, a couple of them are generally only accessible from under the car though.
Seriously though, its an easy cheap fix if this is it...

Read this: https://www.yourmechanic.com/service...ts-replacement

Shouldn't take any more than 2 hours and $20 to replace the intake manifold gasket.
Once you do the right thing, you'll be glad you did.
