IMO, buy an eBay quality intake piping, and just by a good quality K & N air filter or something. Do not waste your money on a brand new AEM CAI for like 250 bucks or even an AEM short ram. The gains are so minimal for your motor, it would honestly be a waste to spend more than 75-100.

$200 is a lot for an intake system unless you are buying proper brands. You can get an eBay cold-air intake shipped for $40, and a K&N cone filter for another $20-40 depending on where you look. Then later if you have a Y8 manifold, you can cut a few inches off the intake pipe to match the throttle body.

As for performance, you're probably right. I don't notice any difference on the butt-dyno with just an intake. But since you are removing the OEM intake boxes, the intake noise is really nice when you punch it, and its completely quiet still during normal daily driving.

Is it even worth changing to a Y8 or Z6 manifold on the Y7 for an increase in what, 1-5 hp?

just take the top portion of the filter box, cut away material but leave enough flange to hold the filter inplace, and get more air into the tb

Ebay.

Theres really no difference between brand name CIA and off-brand they both do the same thing.

Go with ebay piping and just go get a nice filter.
