Re: which intake is best?
- Stock with K&N square filter (cheap, clean + benefits of improved/washable filter)
- 3" Short Ram Intake with Velocity Stack + large mouth filter (to go over vstack)
- Cold Air Intake (with filter inside wheel well/under passenger headlight)
Based on my understanding, the last two options will yield the most improvement in power. The 2nd option seems to be the preferred solution nowadays, although length of pipe apparently makes a tangible difference. The 3rd option was the preferred one for several years, it is still very common and valid, but might not make as much power as a well designed SRI with VStack. Also, install is a bit more involved, but nothing you can't handle.
Good luck.

The three options I would consider:

just do the 3 inch pipe witha velcoity stack with a mesh over the stack
full cold air intake is useless and causes problems
i would just stay stock cause it looks clean

AEM/K&N filter with a generic 3" tube is the best i've found...i haven't tried a velocity stack yet just because i don't really feel comfortable driving in our dusty city with one. CAI's haven't shown enough HP gain to make me drop the $$$ on the extra tubing to build one.

If you want an intake just get a aem short ram for like 100 bucks and call it a day, some say cheap ebay, but you want to make sure you still have the proper vacuum lines connected etc.
CAI have been tested and are a waste of money, time and time again, the short rams produce the same if not a slight increase in HP. Plus you can suck water in, I know AEM makes filter for this but just a waste of money.

The line from the valve cover, if that's what you're talking about, is the first thing to come off. Ran like that for years. No negative effects. Spending $100 on a tube is pretty stupid.

Well I have a $50 Ebay CAI that fits great and made power but I did not want to get knocked for it. Oh I have a Dry Flow filter on it.

hey man i have an AEM cold air intake on my 2000 civic si and i can tell you that it sounds pretty awesome(as far as a 4 cylinder econoboxes can sound at least). i bought the car with it and you can really hear the different when you hit the pedal. havent been in a stock one before but its definitely a noticeable difference in the sound.
as far as power goes... if you have a d-series your SOL.
hope i dont get flamed for that

Best bang for his buck is a 3 inch pipe with a velcoity stack hands down
