Insurance question
jsut a quick question
- if i do an aftermarket modifcation to my car (or anycar that is) i "technically" have to report it to insurance right? say i dont, and get into an accident, they will only pay for the stock part price? or will they just not cover it at all and cancel my insurance?
thanks

Re: Insurance question (GPoodle)
logically thinking, you should report whatever you have cause then they can cover the price of that if it gets stolen or get into an accident, but im just scared as to what my insurance will be if i report it, seeing as im 17 and modifing a civic!

Re: Insurance question (Nader_D)
I work for Progressive and through us if you want the extra parts covered you would have to purchase additional parts and equip. coverage. You can purchase up to $5000 worth. If you have more than that you would have to insure the vehicle as stated amount which will cost an arm and a leg.

I'm pretty sure that insurance policies are just like warranties on vehicles. You can void warranties by modifying the engine or suspension; likewise, I'd be willing to bet your insurance would be voided if you made unreported modifications.
To put it in simple terms: You insured a particular car. Change out an engine and you're not driving the car on the policy.

Re: Insurance question (m0dr0cker)
Modifications are dependent on the insurance company.. mine with allstate automatically covers $1000 in aftermarket products incase of theft and loss. But if you go and swap lets say a B series into a EG hatch and the cost is like $2.4K then if you want to get it back you will need to get additional coverage for it.
