Default Instant short shifter ! (Shifter problem)

92 Hatch, B16A2, Cable tranny.

So, I was leaving work this morning, and there was this chick ahead of me. She was in a prelude. As we exited the parking lot we both got on it in 1st. (BTW I could have EASILY passed her).

Anywho, When I went to shift into 2nd, The shifter just dropped. It dropped low like I put a short shifter in there. I was like WTF?

I pulled it up and stuck it in 2nd, went into gear and I continued home while holding the shifter up in between shifts.

I parked in front of my house, shut the car off, put in to N, and let go. BONK ! it just dropped.

I all ready needed a new clutch because it was real mushy feeling...now its worse. But I dont know if this is related to the clutch.

Thanks !

I'd get under the car and check out what's going on. Maybe the nuts/bolts that hold the shifter into place fell out.

shift linkage(top one that holds shifter in place) is probably falling down...the bolts rust and break kinda easily.

Yeah, it's just two bolts.

make sure you have that metal plate that goes over the rubber. that holds teh shift linkage to your frame. the 2 bolts should first go through the metal plate, then through the rubber, then through your frame and then to the nuts to fasten the whole thing down.

i forgot to put the metal plate back once and my shifter fell low too.
