Default Installing Si rear swaybar on 97 Ex

How do the bolts secure the bracket (#30, highlighted) to the subframe? Do I use nuts on the other end of the bolts? The holes for the bracket on the subframe aren't threaded.

Thanks.

inside the subframe there should be like a welded nut there already, so u just use the bolts and tighten them up...

only on models that came equipped with a rear sway.
when i put mine on, i just used nuts/bolts.. if you use a sway larger than the si 13mm you need some form of sub-frame reinforcement. like the asr or beaks subframe braces.

torn sub-frame = no bueno.

Thanks guys, I'll get some nuts/bolt tomorrow. Any recommendations on the length/material?

100%!! I put a DC2 GSR rear sway on my EJ1, had to use nuts on the back side as there weren't any welded there. On the drivers side I actually had to disconnect the lca to get behind there. This may not be the case in your situation but be aware you might need to do something like that if you can't get a wrench back there.

Seems like I'll be able to get it threaded starting with the top bolts first, then finish off the bottom ones. Thanks for the input.

If you have some old Honda bolts lying around that would be best. Because of the location and nature of what they hold together make sure to use a higher tensile strength bolt if you have to go to the hardware store.

Whenever I go to the pull-a-part bone yards I always pick up handfuls of 10mm and 12mm nuts/bolts. For my rear sway I had some extra brake booster 12mm nuts and the sway bar mounting 12mm bolts from the donor car.

just go to a hardware store and get some good grade 8 nuts/bolts, maybe washers. (take the brackets in with you if you're not sure of the size.)

i would advise against hardware from the junkyard, just because its all like 10+ years old..

Grade 8 hardware is automotive application hardness FTW!

Because the car itself isn't already 12 years old anyway.

I have the same car and I'm curious as to how you did this? Did you just order he bracket and sway bar from the Si? I have an Si Strut tower and to hell with paying 400 for a rear sway kit

Shoot me a PM Man :D

Did you just use Parts #27, 30, 34, 31,33?

I got the complete Si rear sway with D brackets, and endlinks from an Si.

I used all the parts you listed, but had to go out and buy bolts/washers/nuts (washers are optional) from Ace hardware to secure #30 to the subframe.

The bolts I used were M8x1.25pitch.

Check for some local "You Pull Apart" boneyards. I got a GSR rear sway for my EJ1 with all the links and mounting for $16. Paid almost as much just for ES bushings for the damn thing.

But if you insist on buying new from the dealer I would go with the 22mm bar from the USDM ITR. You can probably put together the bar & mounts for about $100

Does the ITR Sway mount up to the EM1 brackets though?? or if with the ITR Brackets does it mount to the EJ8 Chassis?
