Default installing a clutch

i have a 92 dx hatch with the d16z6 in it, my clutch is starting to slip so i ordered a act stage 3 clutch and 11 pound flywheel. i am wondering how hard it would be to installl the clutch in it my self or should i just take it somewhere? i'm not running a/c or power steering if that makes it easier. i choose a stage 3 and 11 pound flywheel because i have a turbo kit that is going onit soon.

Its not too hard, as long as you can bench about 100 pounds.

As long as you have the tools and all the parts, it'll probably take just a couple hours. Took me three, but I move in slow motion.

just remember to remove the starter. there is a long *** bolt that screws up everyone, the first time they pull it.

i wouldnt try it if your dont know somebody whos done a few, theres little things that you wont really find out about until you dig in, but if you have all the tools, and alittle help go for it man, it took me and friend 10 hours in my driveway in the cold wind, sounds kinda long but we took our time. But i can definitely see why its worth paying a shop do it if you dont have a lift, cuz its a b#tch

i dont find it too hard. the hardest part is putting the tranny back on. but i just lift it up by hand and have someone else stick the mount on and then turn the motor until the splines line up and pop it in.

thats WAY too long for that, damn.

I still don't know a mechanic within 50 miles that i would let touch my car. I'll stay in my driveway.

You guys work too damn fast. I think the last one I did alone took me like 4 hours to get it out, and another 4 to get it back in.

I think the stupidest mistake I made the first time was not disconnecting the battery before I took off the starter. Electricity sparks, and may hurt you. Other than that, be sure to take off all the bolts and maybe even have a spare jack to help support the trans as you try to pry it off. You're gonna have to shimmy the **** out of it so it might get a little tiring. And make sure you have the line-up tool when you put on the clutch. Putting on the trans might be a little tight too. Good luck.

My worst clutch changing problem was that I ended up taking the starter completely apart. It had been more than a year, and instead of removing the main starter bolt like I should, I ended up pulling the 6 or 8mm bolts that hold the starter together off and damaging the brushes in the starter and having to replace it.

Thats about how long it took me to do my first one, maybe a little longer. Ohh wel live and learn I can do a trans swap in about 3hrs now on my own. I take my time and lay ever bolt out on the ground and label them so that takes me longer but when I put it all back tothger its that much easier.

with my first and only install the only thing i didn't do right is tighten up the pressure plate enough... i was using a 20-150lbs ft torque wrench with a socket adapter/extension and was trying to torque it to 20... seemed like it's around 15lbs ft and the clutch engaged way too high... i tightened it down through the starter hole (was a pain in the *** finding the right socket) and now engages lower where it should be

I got the starter back together, and it would even pop the impellar out and spin it, it just wouldn't ever turn the flywheel.
