Default installed new stereo, now there is no power

I already tried to post this in the audio/vsecurity/video section oh h-t but no luck. okay so i bought a new pioneer stereo for my car to replace the old one (also pioneer) i could'nt just plug it into the old harness because the plug is slightly different, so i disconnected everything but found that the previous owner had left 3 wires loose (2 red and 1 yellow, but since everything was working before i just left them alone) i basically copied the way he had it wired up before, once finished mocking up the wiring i turned the stereo on and it was working just fine but then i think i may have accidentaly made one of the loose wires touch the power wire and all of a sudden the stereo shut off (the a/c controls also shut off) i checked the fuses under the dash and both were burned out i replaced them and the a/c controls started working again, but the stereo still has no power, any ideas on what else i could check??

What? What do you mean the plug was slightly different? I'm guessing right off the bat, without reading anymore of your thread, that a proper aftermarket installation harness is NOT being used. You obviously shorted out at least a fuse trying to follow the POs hack job. Do a search and get a wiring diagram and follow it. Track down the blown fuse and replace it. HINT-HINT. There are fuses under the hood too.

yep i checked the ones under the hood also, the harness that i'm referring to is the one that actually plugs into the back of the stereo

Quick question did the original pioneer have a harness to the factory wiring or was the factory plug cut off?

Also the pioneer should have its own fuse.

By the way to play it safe you should of disconnected the negative battery wire.

There are two power wires and a ground. The rest are speaker wires. Not really that hard to deduce a power issue. If your switched and constant have power and your radio is still not powering up and your fuses are actually in working order then possibly your deck is destroyed. Take it out and wire it straight to the battery and see if it lights up.

This is what a proper install looks like when you use a proper harness ON a Pioneer deck no less. Please post a pic of your wiring as it stands now.

This is what it looks like attached to the factory plug.

So if those red and yellow wires are just dangling I can only assume your wiring is totally hacked to hell.

So my question to YOU is if you've installed stereos in Hondas supposedly THE RIGHT WAY why in blazes would you follow some dumbasses hack job wiring?

Do this, hook up the old radio and see if play, just twist the wires and some electrical tape.

Remember check the back of the radio for it's own fuse as well.

You might of fried the new deck.

I hate to say this that guy was an idiot, you should never cut the factory plug.

My advice. Go to the junkyard and get a plug to replace the one that was hacked off. At the very least you should have gotten a wiring diagram and NOT followed after crappy work.

From that pic you posted I cannot make heads or tails out of what I'm looking at.

By the way if you look at the factory wires they are different colors than that the pioneer's colors. If you can not get a factory plug get a service manual and note the factory wire colors and match them to the pioneer's harness wires.

You don't have to get a harness at this point. Just follow the diagram and attach the correct wires and call it day.

If you can't find a junk OEM harness, you can ask for a "reverse harness" at a stereo shop.

Do it right. Either you or the next owner will eventually find themselves in this process again.

I've seen some of this wiring cut up so many times there is literally nothing left to connect to under the dash.

hey grumble, do what i did, make sure your fuses aernt blown, both behind the deck and under the steering panel. Wire up your deck accordingly and taping each connection except your ground with electrical tape, then lastly turn your car to the accesory position and if your deck doesnt power on touch the ground from the deck to bare metal, and if it still doesnt work. Borrow a test light and check your 2 power wires
.

You've shorted the dash light rheostat by wiring the illumination line improperly. Now you have a broken car *and* a broken deck.

I would stop and take the whole thing to a stereo shop.
