Inconsistent intake
Guys, ive tried searching..im coming up with broken images...I need a picture of a stock 97 ex engine bay as well as a 98. I just need to see the differences between the 2.
The reason I ask is because I recently bought a 97 EX. Im doing the basic maintenance (filters, plugs/wires, etc.) so I looked up the air filter for 97 civic and came up with a different looking filter then what the car has in it. It wouldnt fit in the airbox. When a co-worker suggested looking up the 98 filter, it fit right in. Is the program we use at work faulty? or did a previous owner change the airbox??
Ill try and edit with some pics for you guys to see what mine looks like
thanks in advance

1998 Civic EX intake:
1997 EX Intake:
Exactly the same. Shows the same part number on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com, so I dont see why it would not fit. Except unless the filter was boxed wrong. Which that does happen. It happened when I worked at a parts store several times.
The only parts number difference I see, is between the X and Si. So you should not have an issue.

96-00 EX/SI use the same filter. The 96-00 DX/LX/CX use a different type of air filter, which is more than likely what you have.

Nope, Its an EX. But now that you mention that dx/lx/cx have diff filters then the EX, im thinking the fitler was looked up wrong. Maybe I was sold a dx filter first time, and when we looked it up under 98, the right model was chosen. I just wanted to make sure that nothing was screwy with my car. lol
Thanks for feedback

thats clearly an ex, the cx/lx/dx has the y7 with the vertical throttle body and the filter is located right on top of the intake manifold if my memory serves me correct.... back to my first honda. but yeah, it was probably boxed wrong as stated before. IMO get rid of that plastic junk and get a cheap short ram intake with a good filter, plus the k&n filter is rechargable so you will save money in the long run
