Re: improving my 94 honda civic cx?
id put a new motor in imho... you can put a b7, a z6, a y8 head on yours but it depends if it has the 4 valve relief pistons you wont get much flow out of that head even with the z6 mani it has 2 valves per cylinder the other heads have 4.. thats why the cx has like 75 hp

He's right. Short of a turbo charger, or tens of thousands into a N/A setup there really isn't that much power to be had on a D series w/bolt ons.
You could do full bolt on's, cam/tune. This will get you a little, but won't do much.
You have a economy car, not a high performance car.
What's your budget?

There really is no point to money into that engine for just bolt on's.
Really, you are just wasting your money. Kind of called pipe dreams.

How much experience do you have working on Honda's? You could stick a GSR in it. You'd be surprised how quick these cars can be with little work.
For your exact engine, I don't know much about it. So I would need to do a little research to be sure.

After a 2 second search, I wouldn't touch that engine with a 10 ft pole. 8 valves. lol.
I can say with a certainly toss the engine if you want to any spirited driving, or want any sort of performance from it.

Re: improving my 94 honda civic cx?
i would recommend maybe a b7 if you can find one cheap with a d16a6 cam and y8 cam gear you will need a p06 ecu(chipped with 5%fuel increase and 7500 rpm fuel cut), a 4 wire o2 sensor and i would recommend a z6 intake with a ls tb and a ex or si trans (much shorter gears) you should make roughly 135-150whp with the right mods this is my plan for my del sol just havnt got all the parts gathered as of yet, it should cost less than about a grand for everything at the right price, i got my z6 intake mani for 20 and my si trans for 100 just depends on what deals you can find, if you want to go with something easier id go with a d16z6 its direct bolt in just need the new ecu and to wire vtec

Re: improving my 94 honda civic cx?
Oh ok. Yea, a 3'' is good for a boosted setup, but this little 8 valve thingy could never need that large of any exhaust.
if your considering boosting just keep the exhaust. If just a simple NA swap look for a 2.5''
I would lean towards the z6 if you want to keep it SOHC.
The key is being willing. A lot of noobs come here and aren't willing to learn/ search and do their own work. That is when a noob gets annoying. I have no problem at all helping someone, but they need to help themselves as well.

Hmotorsonline.com for an engine. JDM D15B (its essentially a D16Z6 with 3 more HP) is what you want to look at. You definitely want an EX/Si transmission from a 92-00 Civic to mate up with the transmission. That or look around on Craigslist for a partout 92-00 Civic Si/EX and grab the Z6 or Y8 engine.

Re: improving my 94 honda civic cx?
My 2cents...
Being a 94 CX owner myself, outside of just leaving it alone I would recommend learning on that engine if you don't know much about mechanics (and from your questions I'd guess you don't have too much experience). The big factor here is whether or not your engine has 16valve pistons in it already. I just recently converted my B8 to 16valve and I'll tell you that even just being a DX is waaaaaaaay better than running the CX engine in there. Even though a DX isn't anything to brag about I'm very pleased with the outcome and most importantly the experience gained from working on it. Also for the same amount of work (plus a tiny bit of wiring) you can use a VTEC head. If learning isn't your thing (hands on, lots of grime, cursing, etc) and your not looking to go super fast then as others said a complete Z6 change over would be your easiest and most cost effective swap.
EDIT: In case you want a quick read, here are the major differences with the B8 that you should know about IF you decide you want to modify your current engine.
