Default Improperly set clutch?

Alright so I finally got my project car running and took it for a ride around the block. It felt a little funny letting off the clutch at first, and I think the shift linkage is a little fucked up because it was damned hard to move it in and out of gears. But when I came back up the hill on my street and had to stop at a stop sign, I let off the clutch and it stalled out. I tried starting it back up again and it didn't want to start at all, it just kept cranking. I pushed it back up to the cul-de-sac in front of my house, which still has a slight incline to it. I cleaned the plugs off because they were a bit fouled, and then eventually got it started again. With the clutch in it idled fine, but as soon as I let the clutch out it died again.

I'm running an ACT HDSS clutch on a D16Y8 with a tranny from a Y7. Anybody have any clue what could be up with it?
