Importing Cars to the US
just wondering what it takes to get a car registered and drivable in the US after importing it from Japan. Cause my god these things are cheap and BADASS. i need all the info i can get before im over-stimulated by the JDM price!

I have heard that you can pull the motor out, take it to the DMV, and liscense it as a kit car, then go home and put the motor back in. Lots of work but probably well woth it.

What do you need to make a jdm car meet dot spec.
Most require....
5mph bumpers
usdm headlights(the jdm units focus different than usdm)
dot spec glass
doors with side impact beams
dot rated tires(jdm rubber wont pass
)
MPH Gauge cluster
Proof that the car has similar crash test ratings to its usdm counterpart
All smog equipment with matching computer for the engine.
Then you have to get the car inspected and tested. so the government knows its worthy to be driven on the streets and passes smog if its applicable where you live.
Edit: When I Import my car ill make a journal of every step and mod I have to make+ all of the joyfull bullshit ill have to deal with
