how do I get to the area where you remove the input and output lines to drain the fluid. The Area up underneath the car is really small. Can I get to it? Do I have to remove my whole steering rack?

man, it's a messy job. don't try to be neat with it. just start pulling lines off (carefully) and direct the pouring fluid to a drain bucket. no, you do not have to remove the rack.

well the input and output hose and line or whatever are different than yours. Mine is all up under the firewall and stuff. So i think i have to go from underneath the car. Yours is angled different since its a b series so its easier.

i wasn't even thinking about my gs-r. i drive a crx now, but i was referring to doing it on a 95 ex. i've helped on a 98 ex before, but i didn't actually do any dirty work. i know for a fact, though that he didn't have to remove the rack. i just helped put in the terdblo ls

oh for real man? Yea i removed a bunch of the lines going from the resivior to the rack, but i still can't get back there to remove it from the actual rack? To I need a line wrench or anything or can I use a normal wrench? Do I need to get up under the car? I'm doing that thing where you loop the hose in a U bend going from the input to output and I need help with it.

ok, here's what you need to do- yes, use a line wrench from the underneath of the car. once you get all the lines off, don't just loop the two together, instead, run the 2 lines together into a T with transmission line hose (rubber hose that won't swell), then from that T-fitting, run a single line up to a clutch fluid resivior. fill it to the fill line with fluid, and your rack will always be lubricated. mount the new clutch fluid resivior near your other 2 factory ones. it looks cool as ****. ask "Plan B" for links to pics of the setup that he and I did on his car. actually, i'll find some. he's busy right now.

man i am still having a shitload of trouble getting off the hose that runs from the resivour to the steering rack. The last hose clamp is being a bitch to get off. Do you have pics of this setup on an ex?

also i may be in trouble because i don't have a line wrench . I am going to eventually do the T setup, but i don't have the time right now. So I'm just gonna do a 180 bend there.

we later moved the resivior next to the other two, and when people asked brian about it, he told them he had 2 clutches . oh, and another thing- use a line wrench. don't strip that nut, or you'll be screwed.

thats sick man! Yea right now i ghetto rigged it big time because i don't have time to finish it right now and the parts stores are closed. i just took out the pump, resivior and some of the lines and connected the hose going to the pump and rigged up a hose coming from the output into eachother and majorly duck taped it. It is ghetto as hell. I need to finish this . So did you guys do that with the engine pulled? because my engine is still in there and i can't get to the input and output on the steering rack to save my life.

Alright, its been a while since I did this so i did forget some things, but I hope other HT members might fill in anything im forgetting.

I went to my local junkyard and bought a clutch fluid resivour tank for like 5 buxs. Whut this does is it will act as a breather for your power steering fluid (More on this later)

I bought about 2 feet of fuel line hose (5/16 i believe) and 4 hose clamps.

I began by removing my power steering pump and all the old hoses including the metal ones. However the metal fluid lines that were attached to my power steering rack i cut them off, using a pipe cutter or even a small hacksaw, but i left about 1 inch or so of the metal line still there so that way I had something to clamp the new hose securly onto. lets just call em nipples.

Using the 5/16 hose, i looped the two outer nipples ( 1 n 3 in my diagram) and secured the hose using some hose clamps. I then ran another hose to nipple # 2 and attached that to my breather tank. I mounted this near my clutch resivour but its totally up to you were you wanna mount it.

Now, I jacked the front end of my car up so that both of my front wheels were off the ground. I cut a the bottom of 2l pop bottle off and stuck the neck of the bottle into my new breather tank,. i filled the pop bottle up with paper towels. sit in your car and start to turn your wheel back n forth. I did this for about 5 min or so and changed the paper towel in the pop bottle so it can absorb more of the excess ps fluid. once i couldn't get anymore out i put the cap back on.

just make sure all your clamps are secure so you dont get ps fluid leaks, hope this helps

lol it would be nice to have a manual steering rack, but a power steering rack converted to manual = better turning radius ...at least in my case.
