Im such an idiot! HELP! (irratic idle)
I don't know if this is the wrong forum, but move it if you need to Tom.
Anyways, did an engine oil/oil filter change tonight, and stupid me didnt check to see whether or not the old oil filter rubber gasket came off with the old filter when i removed it. So installation of the new oil filter meant i had the old rubber gasket squeezed under the new filter, and what do you know? Engine oil leaked out, oil light came on, etc. Now i was lucky that it happened right in front of a servo station, so i pulled in and turned it off quickly. Didn't hear any detonation or funny noises from the engine, so im praying i didn't kill any internals.
I managed to get a new filter and new oil, so i did the oil change again. But just when i thought it couldn't get worse, my idle is screwed now. Jumps from 1k to 1.5K rpms and wont go any lower. I know irratic idle is usually associated with a vacuum leak and the IACV, but any ideas why it happens after this engine oil mishap? I dont understand the association that may exist between irratic idle and low oil.
Anyway, any ideas would help.
THanx guys
