ok guys, 99 civic dx sedan, drivin very hard.
has a good 80k on it.
anyways, more and more often the car will start, turn over once and then die, i can't rev it up after it cranks over, it just drops to nothing, this happens about 1 out of 5 starts, also it idles low sometimes, and the tach jumps over the place.

Once in a while the car will just die and can't start right up, does the same thing...

any help would be so helped.. i replaced the spark plugs also last week..


ps. what size is the hose from the fuel filter to the fuel rail in an/anl ? 8an ??

If your tach is dropping to zero as the engine cuts its probably the ICM (ignition control module) in the distributer. Before you bother to check it make sure the rotor cap is in good condition as well as the rotor arm and HT leads. It could also be the coil but it tends to be far more robust. Also the fuel pump relay may have developed a dry joint. When you turn the key to the ignition position you should see the CEL go on as the FPR clicks and pressurises the fuel pump. If you don't hear the click and the whir when the CEL goes on it could be the relay. Usually you just need to solder a joint back and it should work fine. Also did the problem start when you changed the spark plugs? if it did check your gaps...
