If I get a new ECU should I have a modification done to it?
I mostly deal with non computerized vehicles, so don't be too harsh on me...
Anyway, with Honda Corp flipping me the finger, I will probably end up getting a new ECU. I have a 1998 Honda Civic w/VTEC - stock. I was wondering if changing anything on the ECU (programmed, etc.) but leaving the vehicle stock would be recommended for a better running vehicle? Just thought I would ask since I'm getting close to ordering one...
Oh, one more thing, when I get a new/refurbished ECU should they flash it with my current VIN? Also I have an analog odometer, do they need to flash my mileage into the ECU? (was not sure if the ECU kept track of miles via the analog device). Thanks again!

The new ECU has everything you need for your car to run within spec from the factory. It is not chippable or flashable. All of the preconceived notions of the things you think the ECU handles are only found on computers that run galaxy class starships.

No, I found a refurb on line with a lifetime warranty for $325. Is that too much? I really don't even want to spend that, but I want to make sure I get something reliable and not someone else's problem, if you know what I mean... if you can offer any help I would appreciate it. Sort of new to the ECU world - never had to deal with this...
I'll take an old gap style ignition system any day...

What is wrong with the current ecu? Have you considered just buying a ecu from the market place/craigslist?
