Default Idling Low

When I'm sitting at a stoplight in my 97 hatch, sometimes it idles to the point where I can't hear it's even on. If I turn it off it's like it takes no effort, like the engine wheezes off. this happens maybe 40% of the time. Not sure if it's my idle sensor, something with fuel or i dunno. My air/fuel gauge says all is right, but i odnt know who installed that beast either. Thanks guys.

Check you FITV and you IACV.

THere is also a bronze phillips looking screw on your throttle body, if you screw it out some, it should raise the idle.

IACV controls you idle when accesories are turned on like AC, Alternator, etc.......

If all else fails, check your throttle cable, it may have come loose or stretched out over time and just needs tightened up a bit.

I'll look for that. I first need to find the throttle body... Thanks for the help. It doesnt really vibrate so im not sure if it's idle or what. then engine just goes silent almost. It's odd. I know it's not normal so that's why I'm asking.

Do not tighten the throttle cable. Does it do it all the time? What RPM?

As far as I can tell, it does it all the time. Just idles WAY low. When I shut it off there's no normal turning off. It's like a "woosh" a really quick, low energy woosh. Like it took no effort to turn it off. i dunno, maybe 1000 rpms? not exactly sure.

1000 RPM would be a high idle. Normal is 750. Doesn't the car have a tach?

Hatchbacks didnt scome with tachs. (Base Model) so i have an aftermarket cheese one that I'm sure isn't extremely accurate. Plus it's hard to read. I could pay closer attention to it next time.
