Default idle will not stay where i set it.

on my motor the stupid idle will never stay where i set it. i try to set it around 800 with the IAC unplugged and it will stay there for a while but then just change randomly . sometimes it idles so low the car almost shuts off. about 400 rpms, other times it fluctuates from 1000-1500 up and down over and over ( unless i turn heater or vent on, then it goes to about 800 for a while) but it barely ever stays where i put it. i have no check engine codes and the IAC is new and clean.. its starting to **** me off. i have a good motor and all and the idle makes the car sound like its crap when im at a stop light or in a parking lot. timing is set right and there is no air in coolant either. 93 del sol. a6 block with z6 head, p28 ecu

try replacing your fast idle thermo valve (under the throttle body) with another one. Mine went nuts and car woul idle at 3K until warm and then drop to what ever it felt like that day. They sell on the net for like 20 dollars.

now that i think about it , i did bypass the coolant lines that go to the TB . so doesnt the FITV close when engine is warm ? but i guess it would never know if its warm if no coolant lines go to it anymore so maybe this could be causing the problem. ill have to figure out how to eliminate the FITV.

i guess i could just cut a square out of gasket paper and put it between the TB and FITV to block what it does. i did this for the IACV once and it worked fine.. what is the purpose of the FITV exactly anyway?
