Idle surge after motor swap on 99 Civic EX w/ d16y7...HELP
Alright so my situation is this...
I finally completed my motor swap that took forever due to cold weather and no garage. Its a 99 Civic EX auto. I swapped the motor out for a d16y7 (the origonal d16y8 had a hole in the block) I put the Y8 intake manifold on the Y7 engine. When i start it up I get the infamous idle surge. Reading up on here i read that this problem is usually caused by a dirty IACV or FITV and followed the steps to diagnose it...Took off the intake and covered up the bottom hole in the t/b...idle surge is GONE. The 2nd hole goes to the FITV from my understanding....but doing more research i learned that 96 and newer honda's DO NOT have an FITV, so my question is what hole was i covering up??? And how do I clean it????
If anyone has had this problem or can help me diagnose the problem...it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot fellas.

I believe you were covering the hole leading to the IACV. I think the other hole is the Upper Port, which leads to the MAP sensor. The outcome of your test suggests that you should try cleaning the IACV, as well as the throttle body, with carburetor cleaner. If you still have the idle problem, then you may want to search for an intake air or vacuum leak.

Re: Idle surge after motor swap on 99 Civic EX w/ d16y7...HELP (latinheat4ya)
So i did a little more research and from my understanding the IACV is located on the back of the y8 manifold....well, i dont have 1 there. Is it because i have an automatic y8 manifold and t/b? Under my t/b i have what seems to look like an FITV because of the copper block off plate with the 2 screws. Any help?

Does this look similar to the FITV though? Do i uncrew the 2 and clean that out as well?

That looks like the IACV, which has two coolant lines attached to it. As the illustration shows, the IACV is held in by 4 bolts in the throttle body. You also need to remove the electrical connector and the two coolant lines.

Re: Idle surge after motor swap on 99 Civic EX w/ d16y7...HELP (latinheat4ya)
Due to the weather i was finally able to get it done. Cleaned out the IACV and the throttle body and i even tried to clean the intake manifold a little bit with brake and parts cleaner, let it dry then connect everything back. It starts normal, and once its cooled down it idles at about 1000-1200 rpms. If i play with the throttle it starts to idle surge, but not as bad as before. it will idle surge for a few seconds and then go back to normal. when i put it in drive the idle is nice and smooth but idles at about 900-1000 rpms. i've tried adjusting the throttle cable, idle screw, bled the coolant, adjusted the dizzy, even tried looking for a vacuum leak....no luck. maybe i missed something or it was right in front of me...but i have no clue. any ideas?

It'd be pretty easy to get some air trapped in the cooling system if you disconnected the coolant lines from the IACV. You said that you bled the system, but double check that it was done correctly. Slide the heater lever to max heat, and then perform steps 9-12:

Ok, so i followed the procedures, and still have the idle surge. Out of curiousity i checked disconnected the intake and covered that bottom hole leading to the IACV and the idle surge stopped. It seems to suck a lot of air. Is my IACV bad?
