Idle Surge
I have a 94 civic DX with a 96 jdm gsr swap, the motor is completely stock. I have an exhaust leak in the header and the stock civic exhaust doesnt line up perfectly with the gsr ,so there is a leak there to. It has been running fine since i did the swap about 3 weeks ago. All of a sudden it started surging from 1k-2k when it idles. i looked for a vac leak but their isnt ne thing apparent. i dont have a CEL either. If its not a vac leak does ne one know what it might be. i would apreciate ne help. thanks

Re: Idle Surge (eskerley)
i have the same problem and mine has to do with the wiring of the IACV which causes my idle to jump up and down. are you throwing any checks by the way...

Re: Idle Surge (ek-g6)

Re: Idle Surge (StreetRiot_DRE)
i know exactly what this problem is cause im going through it now!! such a pain.. 1st check the idle screw. then you need to tighten your fast idle valve, its on the bottom of your throttle body. i will be doing mine again this weekend, but i have reason to believe mine is either broken or i need loctite.. here use this

Re: Idle Surge (spock_rocker)
thanks alot for the help. I believe thats what my problem was. I took mine apart and the white screw wasnt even screwed in. I just need to get a TB gasket and put it all back together. I will let you know if it works or not.

Re: Idle Surge (BigBoostEM1)
So my problem wasnt fixed by cleaning the FITV. If i plug the top whole inside the throtle body the idle stops surging also i unplugged the iacv and it stopped the problem. i take it i need a new IACV?

Re: Idle Surge (eskerley)
I have the surging idle issue to and none of those things worked, but after 2 weeks it finally threw an IACV code. Maybe your problem too, cuz i ran threw every flow chart diagnostic routine, even tightening up the throttle cable and adjusting the idle screw, so it might be a sign of an IACV giving up the goods.
This was after rebuilding the whole thing, cleaning out all the passages and all that good stuff, so i was stumped, so now i have to buy a new one which will kill my pocketbook.

Re: Idle Surge (koots)
i have done everything to try and make it stop. I bought a new IACV from the dealer, checked to make sure the FITV worked, checked for vac leaks, bled coolant. There are no CELS and the top hole inside the TB is sucking air and when i plug it it stops. I thought that ment the IACV didnt work but its brand new. idk wat to do. I am about ready to plug the stupid hole. lol

Re: (93civicsedan)
yes i have a red hatch. their are alot though lol mine has grey wheels, wilwood bbk, noir exhaust.
I took the TB off and cleaned the entire thing. Would a MAP sensor and TPS be the same off a D series. casue i have a D in my garage that i know has good sensors on it. i was wondering if i swap the sensors over to the gsr.

Re: (eskerley)
dont mess with the throttle cable. check the intake manifold and throttle body gaskets. if theyre leaking theyll throw your vaccum off as well.

Re: (eskerley)
Its the top hole inside the TB that is sucking air. I believe it might be fixed. I adjusted the TPS and it seemed to stop, but we'll see. Now it idles at 1400 though lol.
