Default Idle question, fixed by covering the top throttle body hole?

My car has a very erratic idle, it surges about 200rpm and back in a second, so ti will go from 1600 to 1800 or so and back again just starting up. After a couple minutes it will surge from 700-900. It continues doing this as long as it's idling, very very annoying.

I searched this and found that people plug the lower hole in the throttle body, and if that fixes the problem then it's the fast idle thermo valve.

Apparently if it's the top hole (about ten o-clock) that you plug and it makes the idle surge stop, then it is the IACV correct?

How do I check this? I read "connect pin 9 to pin 23 and see if the IACV is bad" I don't know where to find these pins? where the ECU is? Somewhere in the engine compartment?

Thanks

last bump, I just don't know what the top hole in the throttle body means, all the writeups say "if you cover the lower hole" and that doesn't fix mine.

ecu should be on the passenger side kick panel if its 92+ car... and it would be on the passenger floor covered by a plate if its 91 and under year model..

the "PINS" they are talking about is the one that connects to the ECU

hey out .. http://tech.hybridgarage.com/ and look around theres alot of knowledge there

I had the same problem with my B16, and I bought a cover plate for the FIT valve, then just buy a piece of metal dowel from Home Depot to plug the IAVC vavle. You can get vacuum lines and connectors for the IAVC after you plug the hole and it should take care of the idle. Mine has been idling fine for months on end since I did this. Good luck!

I don't understand? My IACV is already installed and everything, what am I getting vacuum lines and connectors for if the hole is plugged? Are you saying bypass the IACV completely? If so why bother plugging the hole?
